Unless the fleet footed Haye ran in abject terror, thereby surviving into the 4th...his fight with prime Tyson would resemble Carl William's effort more or less. Haye might have lasted to the 2nd round.
Marciano, Dempsey and Louis would have stopped Haye faster than Carl Thompson did. Tunney was way too good for him.
Haye would have failed miserably against any of the top to heavies of the 70's. Foreman in particular would have slaughtered him. Need I tell anyone other than the clueless that Jimmy Young would have made him look like a fool. I won't mention what Ali, Frazier, Lyle, Quarry and Bonavena would have done to him.
i'm pretty sure i'm the biggest haye fan on here. no, tyson destroys him. frazier's a bit more interesting but i can't think of a legit argument for haye. would be worth seeing tho and haye has a real chance of hurting him if frazier leaves himself open, tyson would be pointless. haye has a lot of good attributes but most of them were best demonstrated at cw. i feel the way he stopped chisora doesn't get enough credit. his big weakness at hw, imo, is that he has a bully mentality and mentally can't take being the smaller man. not such an issue against frazier and tyson, the problem there is how good those guys are.
Only if Haye landed a single, good shot by chance...like Manuel Ramos did, but I suspect that Frazier would recover and abuse Haye the rest of the way just like he did Ramos.....I'm not impressed at all with Haye...he displayed his lack of mettle vs Wlad....and Frazier's tempo would be set much higher...his sense of urgency would propel him to wreck havoc on Haye. Yes...of course, Tyson would have been waaay too much for Haaaaye.
carl.William's would of taken Haye apart piece by piece in similar fashion to the Cooper fight unless Haye lands a lucky shot the truth takes him to school.
Haye would be a problem in any era and is better than his resume. He'd probably lose to Frazier and would have even less chance with Tyson. Norton, Tua, Mercer, Cooney, etc. would mostly lose to him.
But Ferguson and a 40+ Holmes could beat him? Mercer went down on the cards against every good fighter he fought. He'd win in instances when his power would bail him out. I don't think it would against Haye.
Saying Haye is European level is utterly absurd and such a huge lack of respect for one of the greatest ever fighters from this country. Did you see him crawl off canvas to KO Mormeck in Paris to unify the cruiserweight division? It was was one of the greatest performances of any British fighter in history. He has everything, heart, chin, skill and unreal talent. I really believe that if he KOed AJ, Fury and Wilder people on this forum would then say they are all garbage and he is European level...
Haye was athletically gifted. Always kept in great shape. He had better than average boxing skills and could punch. But I don't think he had the balls or mental fortitude to beat men like Tyson or Frazier. I actually see him being a tougher fight for Joe than he would for Mike but at the end of the day they both prevail against him
I don't really understand why Haye is so lauded. His big wins: 1. Valuev, which is disputed and the guy retired afterwards and really seemed to be going downhill 2. Jean Marc Mormeck, who himself didn't have any big wins except O'Neil Bell, who went on to immediately lose to a no-name right after. 3. Enzo Maccarinelli, who also doesn't have any respectable wins from what I can see. 4. Chisora. And hell, looking at it, Chisora doesn't actually have any good wins either. I guess it's respectable that he's done well losing against tough opponents? Man, I was expecting to talk about Chisora being the bright spot on Haye's resume, but the guy really doesn't have any actual wins. Am I missing something?
1. not defending the valuev performance - see mental issues with being smaller man 2. cw 1v2 both brought it and was a good, decent quality fight 3. should have won but did so way easier than expected 4. beating chisora is standard for a world level fighter, but only haye's done that too him
