As the subject title states - who would you pick here given the year and record of each fighter.

I honestly think a 2009 Haye would have had the number of AJ, would probably have ended the same way it did for Enzo Maccarinelli.

how was he overrated as a Cruiser? He went to France and sparked Mormeck including getting up off the floor to win. Idiotic throwaway statement.

    I'd favour Haye.

Joshua isn't great at cutting the ring of, and whilst he can put his shots together well, he isn't the quickest puncher. Given that Haye had tremendous reflexes, I can see him making Joshua miss and countering him. This will be made easier by the fact that Joshua is open to the counter when on the attack as he doesn't get his hands back up quick enough and he lingers in the pocket.

Some people may use Wlad as a comparison, but Wlad, who has similar dimensions to Joshua, beat Haye because Wlad was always cautious of punches coming back. He would not over commit on his shots and was always ready to pull back. Pre Ruiz Joshua was far less cautious than Wlad. He would telegraph a shot, over commit, miss, and then get chinned.

Obviously, one mistake by Haye and it is all over for him. But, I believe Haye has more strings to his bow that can cause Joshua trouble than vice versa.

Mormeck was the undisputed champ. I was surprised he beat O’Neil Bell though. I used to speak with Adam Booth about how they were expecting Haye to box Bell for the belts and then he lost.

Haye. Wasn’t big on him at heavy but he was explosive. I think he would have eventually found a way through. Joshua would have cowered and been a sitting duck from then on.

    Probably Joshua.

Haye was dropped and badly hurt by blown-up SMW journeyman Mock, dropped and stopped by 40+ ex-LHW Thompson after gassing out, dropped by Mormeck in a war, arguably dropped by Barrett and edged Valuev over 12 before losing a wide decision to Wlad (their only mutual opponent), who officially dropped a diving Haye too. Haye was safety-first/borderline survival mode and didn't look impressive against the tall heavyweights he fought, barring Harrison, who was iced in similar fashion by Price and Wilder. Neither are known for their heart but I actually think Joshua has more grit too. I couldn't see Haye ever fighting again (or even being seen in public) if he'd lost to Ruiz lmao. And he certainly wouldn't have fought Usyk had he gone through that experience first.

tbf Mock boiled himself for SMW, used to fight at LHW too. Was an underrrated fighter, only retired a few years ago closer to 50 than 40 and went out on a win.

Was ringside at York Hall that night, he was not put over by Fragameni. He was cut and it was 50/50 until he stopped him though.

I feel after that he was in his prime with the heavyweight 10 rounders before the Cruiserweight title fights. He was awesome back then, however too small to stand and trade at heavyweight which was why his time there was underwhelming.
