I doubt the trainers of a world champion are that dumb.

Foreman says in his autobiography that, indeed, Dick Sadler had him "dry out" and then treated him with a glass of water in the dressing room before fights, as their regular custom, if I remember correctly. Stupid? It probably got him knocked out as much as Ali's strategy in losing his title and we don't even want to talk about nearly dying the night of the Young fight, of dehydration, giving birth to his "religious experience". With regard to heavies cutting weight, Marciano, for instance, was well known to get down to his trimmest fighting weight, regardless of weight limits not existing for him.

Foreman is a natural heavyweight while Haye is not. Look at Foreman when he came back to fight again between the 80s and the 90s. He was big!

Foreman did used to cut weight, his coaches even had him on a vegetarian diet I'm pretty sure.

The only things they have in terms of similarity are height and fighting weight.

Look at Foreman's head, face and hands compared to Haye's. Foreman is naturally the bigger of the two men easily.

Even today, Foreman would look like a big heavyweight, he had that width, neck, head size and density whereas Haye looks like a thin, muscular and athletic man.

It's interesting that Haye would have been a big heavyweight a few decades ago, and Wlad is much bigger still, yet their fight showcased footspeed and handspeed on par with some of the fastest heavyweights in history. I believe boxing has and will continue to develop over time like all other sports. The idea that modern fighters are far less skilled seems like bull**** to me

edit; Yea Foreman is definitely a naturally bigger guy than Haye. I was pretty surprised a few years ago when I found out about Foreman's fighting weight though. I always assumed he went into fights at at least 240

Drying out has its actual scientific backing. When your body experiences starvation or thirst or some kind of state where survival is needed, it becomes revved up.

Do you remember that "zone" when you suddenly move faster than everyone else and you see them in slow motion while you can react faster when you play sports or fight?

That is basically the effect of drying out but amplified. Of course, there is the danger and risk that you run on your body when your drying out takes too long and your body is ruined because this boost only lasts for some period of time.

Take too long to dry out, your body will start degrading to take care of the lack of water and food in your system to replace the cells that mess off with the stress.

Didn't expect to see Haye actually being more solid than Foreman at HW though. That was a surprise. Though Foreman never had Klitschko look down at him.

    I agree with this.

As for HW's cutting weight i think that is true. I don't think they cut weight in the traditional sense like the lower weight class guys do (i.e having a specific weight to aim for and starving and dehydrating yourself in the days before the weigh in). But they probably just naturally lose some of their walking around weight whilst in camp due to the training and stricter diet.

why do people keep saying haye bulks up to being a heavyweight..when he was killing himself to make the cw limit.so does that not mean he was always a heavy draining to be a cw??at the end of the day haye can walk into the hw ring at 220 just like george and as manning already stated haye has more muscle mass and less fat%%%...
