Was the shot that put Maccarinelli on his arse gonna win the prize for the best single punch at the end of 2008? I haven't seen one this year that can compete with it, not at world championship level anyway.

I thought Guerrero's KO of Litzau was better. Nice uppercut followed by a right hook - beautiful work.

I think when Miranda knocked out the over matched Banks was better.

I'm gonna go with Guerrero-Litzau as well, mostly because it was brutal and skillful. Miranda's punch was just a wild hook on a c-class fighter.

That miranda shot is pretty devastating, but thats the only one I have seen that beats Haye's effort. There were two beautiful right hands just prior to the KO that softened him up, both of which were equisitely timed and accurate. The final shot was a big one but it wasn't a one-punch KO like Miranda.

A lot of people judge a KO based purely on how devastating its effects are, how deadly that one punch looked, and often overlook the skill involved in making it happen. For instance, people who think that Darnell Wilson's KO of Nwodo was a better KO than Floyd Mayweather's KO of Ricky Hatton. Mayweather's KO involved two knockdowns, a beautiful counter hook and some clinical finishing. Ding's KO involved clubbing hooks, chasing someone crudely around the ring arms flailing, then hitting with a hail mary club of a hook.

Yeah so Hatton didn't go down so brutally, and yeah he didn't mean 5 minutes of medical attention, but that doesn't change the fact that Mayweather's KO was way more skillful. I suppose its all down to how you judge a good KO, coz I think Haye's KO was set up beautifully and well executed, whereas Miranda's was just a product of sheer brute force against an overmatched opponent.

Excuse me once Haye started landing those right-hands at will it was over for Mac. He landed 3 massive bombs, one after the other, and the 3rd one put him down. Even if the ref had given him a standing 8 count, he was in no condition to defend himself after taking those shots. If he'd have let him carry on he'd have got KO'd even worse, risking serious injury.

I swear some of you lot are crazy, this is boxing, people get killed because of leniant referees. The referee did nothing to alter the outcome of the fight, and the only effect is its listed as a TKO rather than a KO. The key word there is TECHNICAL because quite frankly Mac was ****ed once those right-hands reached home.
