An article in the Sunday Times today shows Cruiser King David Haye to be up to 226 3/4lbs without any fat on him,at 6 3 he can carry the weight ,will it enhance his chances against the Superheavies like Wlad, who scaled 238 for his last defence?
Well just because he looks good dont yet mean he can fight at that weight,i really want him to hurry up now and fight someone decent,i mean mac is gonna be fighting it seems before him at this rate
Haye is a big guy, with a big punch, and a bit of speed. Whether he weighs 205 or 235 I dont care. He's big enough. I question his ability to take a punch though. And I dont like him being so inactive. I think anyone with a bit of talent and a punch has a good chance of knocking out some of the top men at heavyweight these days. The heavyweight fighters are mediocre these days, including Wladimir Klitschko. It wouldn't surprise me if Haye fails badly or succeeds spectacularly. I'll just watch and see. I've learned not to have expectations where heavyweights are concerned.
I agree he is untested at the higher weight. He plans to fight in November ,and if successful, take a bout with a top ten ranked guy, then in February ,fight an eliminator ,with a view to challenging Wlad in the Summer. The division is so mediocre he may go all the way,but I too worry about his chin.
I think he should stay at the weight he had at fight night, which was about 216lbs. He has a great combination of speed and power there .. maybe his frame can carry it, but i'm not sure if the 10 extra pounds add much, especially considering his stamina has been questionable at times. Frankly i don't understand the people who say he's too small though, same with Povetkin. They're as big or bigger than Ali and you won't hear that he'd be too small for today's division.
Yeah i agree, pov is big enough already and though hes not superbly built like haye hes a boxer not a bodybuilder, hes fot enough also already from what ive seen
Yes ,there is no surplus on Haye ,unlike some of the Russians.Haye does a lot of weights, whether this will be a help or a hindrance to his stamina remains to be seen.
Its only a small peice in the Sport section ,its by Brian Doogan their Boxing writer, not really worth the £2 for the paper if you are buying it just for that,I buy it to see how my personal fortune is doing on the market.:yep
Hahahaha I shall pass in that case, boxing rarely gets anything other than a cursory glance in the proper papers these days.
