Just before the ref called it off, a Towel flew in the ring, this stoppage IMO was a bit pre mature Sure Haye was hurt but he still was protecting himself so why the stoppage?
its not the refs fault who ever threw in that towel that called for the stoppage either doesnt know what they are doing or were a bit on the cautious side and didnt want to see the green Haye get hurt, to me Haye though wobbled didnt look all that bad.
I wouldnt say this is any worse than Klitschko lossing to Ross Purity.

Losing to Ross Purity 24-13-1 in your 25th fight.
Or losing to a top 10 former crusierweight champ in your 11th fight.

I wonder which was worse? :think

Haye's chin was rubbish and it cost him the fight.

Combination of chin and stamina IMO, watching the fight, he can barely throw his hands out he is that rooted.

    WTF?
    1. It was Haye's 11th fight.
    2. 40 year old Thompson Top 10? In what ranking, the senior tour?
    3. Thompson never stopped? He was stopped in 5 of his 6 losses against very moderate oppsition ffs.

    1. It was Haye's 11th fight
    2. Thompson was probably just top 10.
    3. Was stopped five times..... once by Crawford Ashley (who lost a close one to Johnny Nelson) once by a guy I ain't heard of, Ralf Rocchigiani (not exactly a pudding and beat him in rematch), an inspired Johnny Nelson on last chance saloon and Ezra Sellars, a huge puncher.

Thompson had a heart comparable to that of Arturo Gatti, and was very dangerous, especially after taking a good shot (ala Julian Jackson - but not as powerful).

Every Haye fight could be 50/50. Everyone's assuming his chin won't be up to the job (not without reason), but even if that proves to be the case, they'll have to get him out before he get's them out. If his punch increases with his weight he has the potential to ko any of them and he's going to find it easy to land punches on these guys.

I love the myth that Haye just gassed in that fight... yeah... like getting hammered over and over had NOTHING to do with that..

He was gassed, but that was because he was getting his ass handed too him... the towel just saved him from being KO'd violently.

People **** me off bringing up the Thompson fight, it has no relevance whatsoever because this was what 4 years ago now, and Haye is a completely different fighter. He was exhausted in that fight and that's what lead to the stoppage, he's a much more intelligent fighter, look at how much he's improved, especially his physique. Also it's worth noting he was stopped on his feet, although he did get knocked down earlier in that 5th round but watch the replay at the end, it's a big right hook right behind his ear, but he gets up and credit to him, but he didn't throw much because he was exhausted, you could see that as right before the knockdown he hurts Thompson and has him covering up in the corner but throws nothing at all.

Also to his credit he stood up to a lot of big, big punches in that round, I counted 9 big right hands, that being straights and hooks, which include the one behind his ear that lead to the knockdown, the big straight right at the end that puts him in trouble and the 2 big right hands to finish it, this aswell as 2 left hooks, 3 really stiff jabs, 3 right uppers and 2 left uppercuts, not sure if I've counted it exactly right and I probably haven't but he's exhausted and takes a lot of big shots.

He took a big left hook aswell in the Maccarinelli fight, which caused him to stumble as he was off balance but he clearly wasn't hurt and carried on fighting. He hasn't got a great chin by any means, but it's noway near as bad as people make out. The only other time he's been down was against Mormeck, not a huge puncher but has enough power to hurt most cruisers, and he caught Haye with a very precise and powerful shot, Haye was stunned and sensibly took a knee, something he no doubt learned from the Thompson fight.

He's got the power to KO almost any heavyweight, he's one of the quickest guys in the division in terms of handspeed and his footwork, aswell as reflexes aswell, he's got sound technical ability, an array of shots and a good jab. His stamina has also improved and he's a more intelligent and precise fighter, and it should be improved further by the fact that he can fight at his natural weight and not have to struggle to make the 200 limit, most of the heavyweight's today aren't what you'd call conditioned so Haye has an advantage in that aspect aswell.
