When Cotto fought Mosley everyone was impressed by Cotto's newfound ability to fight on the back foot and use his boxing skills. I wasn't. I thought he looked vulnerable and was to slow to get out of the 'pocket'. Thus it was no surprise when Margarito walked him down and Cotto was unable to escape for the full twelve.

I see the same sort of scenario with David Haye. Against Barrett on Saturday his footwork seemed slow and plodding. He allowed himself to get penned back into situations that Cotto did versus Mosely.

He managed to evade Barrett's best punches on Saturday but I see big problems down the road for Haye if takes so long to leave the pocket and spin away from opponents.

Of course, no heavyweight fights like Margarito so there is a possibility he won't get exposed and be able to continue planting his feet without getting sparked. However, he seems extremely open to a Klitschko right hand hammer and it wouldn't surprise me at all if he got knocked out.

He needs to improve his footwork and elusiveness if he really has designs on being heavyweight champion.

Hmm nah I dont see it, Haye let him take the centre of the ring because every time he hit him, Monte fell over.

Haye is vunreble though that is obvious, his defence is slack and doesnt have a chin, but he fights aggressively regardless and take anyone out with either hand.

    Heavyweight Nigel Benn.

No, but both strengths and weaknesses are the same.

I only see power as similarities, to be honest.
Chin department I rate Benn as solid, and David as fragile.

Benns greatest attribute was that, well.. plain and simple... he was a BAD Mother f'er. :yikes

    Can't compare the two

Cotto is a lot more versatile than Haye at this point and we have yet to see Haye in a big fight to see how he adjusts in tough situations.

But both guys fight totally different

Cotto is a vastly superior boxer, in every respect.

isn't it odd how he beat Barrett so easily and yet most people, myself included saw how vulnerable he looked.

I didn't read the thread, but did you compare Cotto vs. Mosley to Haye vs. Barett?
