He's at a eerily similar spot to Tyson where he was after losing to a game, tough, determined but inferior Williams. He's older, injury prone, inactive and has a style that doesn't age well. Should he return against anyone half decent I'd expect a Hatton/Senchenko or Tyson/McBride type of scenario. In short he's finished..... He'll probably fight a couple of more times with mixed results in an attempt to help leapfrog his brand. Not really interested to see him in the ring again though tbh.
He looked slower in his last fight imo. His speed was always one of his greatest assets. I would be surprised if Haye has even one more great fight left in him. He should hang it up, he still hung with a lot of heavyweights and blasted a few out as well.
For my money he still has enough power and probably speed to trouble anyone out there. I certainly wouldn't bet against him if he comes back fit.
I don't think you know what a journeyman is. He's a past his prime contender getting longer and longer in the tooth but he'll never be considered a journeyman. If he can stay fit for 6-8 months and fulfill the alleged deal with Hughie Fury I reckon he can surprise a lot of posters here.
Yep Haye was finished a few years ago, he simply wasn't active enough and allowed father time to catch up with him.
I like haye but reckon he's as good as done. He only came back for the money since he'd blown most of his fortune on bad investments.....if the bellew rematch comes off he has to look good and obviously win....but didn't look great in the last fight....even before he done his injury. If he cant get past bellew he should call it a day as his money earning potential will take a big hit after that....and thats all hes back for anyway.
Thing is Ortiz is 38, Povetkin is 37, I think Haye is better than both of them, and most people seem to think they are top 5. Haye is 36, so if he gets back fit I have to ask myself, "why can't he be a serious contender?". I think people might be overestimating how strong the talent pool is out there.
I don't see it, he just went 12 rounds against a nobody. So the signs are his new doping doctor isn't doing a very good job. Perhaps he should give Justin Gatlin a call. Maybe if Haye comes back in bad shape, I guess there is always going to be question marks there with the injuries.
Whether Hayes can make a comeback or not hinges on how well his injuries mend. Unfortunately some injuries never heal to the point of permitting a resumption of intense athletic activities. In short they sometimes prove to be chronic and career-ending. Marciano spoke of a nagging back ache that had begun to interfere with his boxing training when wen he was questioned about reasons for his retirement. Furthermore Hayes is no longer a spring chicken and the body's ability to recover is gradually and drastically reduced as time goes by. Ligaments and tendons become less resilient and unable to bear the stresses they had once handled with relative ease. http://www.drvenuto.com/2014/11/effects-aging-tendons/
Haye isn't battle worn, most of his fights were one sided beatdowns, he also is not too old, 36 is slightly above average age for a top heavyweight, Ortiz is 38, Povetkin is 37, Pulev is 36. If he manages to stay injury free, he will annihilate guys like Whyte, Breazeale, Miller, Browne, Hughie Fury etc., he will surprise some of the guys who are writing him off based on one bad performance.
