If Brock and Ibragimov weighed in at 200 pounds for cruiser weight limit, then fought at 212 or so on fight night, might their power look great at cruiser weight has Haye's did? I think Brock and Ibragimov are far more proven heavyweights. In fact I think Ibragimov is better than Haye. Brock might be better or worse than Haye. Brock had a good right hand, much better defense, and no worse of a chin. Haye looks to have better power, despite Brock having KO of the year a while back. While the fans might think so and so is a big puncher, once there in the ring with a super heavywiegh with speed skills and power, then can go gun shy. I'm not saying Haye will be gun shy, but it would not surpise me if he was cautious early in this fight. I welcome Wlad vs Haye for the heavyweight division, but the Hype around Haye is unreal. It is like a Rocky movie.
There is footage of Norfolk. About four rounds of his fight against Big Bill Tate on the undercard of Dempsey-Brennan in Dec of 1920.
Looking at this fight, i think it could be a good one but could just as easily be a blow for Vlad. Vlad has improved massively since his earlier losses and he should win. To be honest, it is difficult to imagine that it is even possible for someone like Haye to defeat Vlad with that one armed defence he seems to love. You would think that Vlad would hit him hard and straight and find his reign without much trouble at all. If Haye is to win, he needs, imo, to hit at range with his long loopy style hooks. It is possible that if he fights from a distance, despite the reach advantage, he will draw vlad in and catch him off balance. I have always thought that Vlad looks awkward with his footwork and i do think that Haye seems to possess a style that could take advantage of this. Unfortunately, i dont think he has the proper guard, chin or even ability to do so, although i wouldnt mind being wrong and seeing him win. A Haye win by KO, imo, would absolutely destroy Vlad's legacy imo. A points win (if he can stand up to adversity) might help his legacy a bit. An early KO or wide UD would do little for it at this stage. I do think that this is quite an interesting fight. It is a shame though that Haye wasnt forced to earn his shot a little bit more than he did. At this stage, we dont even really know if he has a chin capable of standing up to world class power.
Haye has fast hands and power, which means he has a shot of landing something and he looks to be confident...I think he has to strike early, thats his best chance because if Vlads puts him on the end of the jab then its just a matter of time before the right lands...still even though Hayes has not really fought a top 15 heavy...he has amatuer pedigree and has a shot....but I think Vlad will control the fight and win by the 8th 9th
I have been watching films of Haye. This should be exciting, if short. Haye reminds me very much of Bob Satterfield. Left low, relying on quickness and torso movement to avoid punches. with fast hands and power. Satterfield often punched himself out and I think Haye did also against Thompson. The questions the Wlad fight will pose are does Haye have Satterfield's punch against big men, and does Haye also have Satterfield's glass jaw? One intriguing aspect of Satterfield and therefore of Haye. Because he relied on quickness but had big league power, Satterfield actually did better against the real big men of his day. Most of his defeats were to the quicker men his own size. It will be interesting to see if Haye's Satterfield-like combination of quick hands and power, along with a weak jaw, also makes him a giant killer whose career is studded with shocking upsets both ways. A very interesting matchup. I go with the better schooled Wlad as I don't really know if Haye really has big league power, but Haye is a very live underdog in my judgement.
This is a vital point for me. With some of Wlad's other opposition, I got the feeling they were showing up for a payday, or that they lacked the belief in themselves to win. Haye, as a champion in his own right, will definitely be looking to get Wlad out of there. He has the belief. We'll see if he has the ability. His chin worries me to be honest. I can't see him shrugging off a hard right hand from Klitschko. But as was said above, this is probably the most intriguing matchup at heavyweight for years. I think it will be a good fight while it lasts. The smart money should be on Wlad, but Haye can pull it off if he comes in 100%.
Fair post. I personally think that the bolded part will be the deciding factor of the fight, though. Does Haye have the chin to hang with a puncher like Klitchko? I really don't think he does, if he gets his punches off first he has a chance early, but I don't think it's that great a chance to be honest. Once he tastes Wlads power (and he will in my opinion), Haye will be in trouble.
Better but not as good, Haye's power is well known in sparring with HWs like Danny Williams and Audley, who he both beat up on. Neither would have put away Barret the same way either neither would have put away Mormeck either However its not how hard he hits its if he can land first that will tell the difference.
His career thus far would suggest that he can't take Wlad's shots. As for who wins the fight it's quite a tough one to call because there's very little to make of Haye at heavyweight. I have to say the most likely outcome is a stoppage in Wlad's favour in about round 5 but with a puncher like Haye anything can happen.
