Those dubious rankings by these corrupt sanctioning bodys don't mean anything. A lot of bums of which you have never heard of are ranked.

I was referring to the ring magazine rankings.

I agree. No way is Monte Barrett a Top Ten Heavyweight. I go by The Ring rankings or ESPN's rankings which are very similar.

I agree with you to some degree, the smack talk has helped to stirr up interest and hate. But Haye has also discredited himself. Personally I won't watch the Barett fight.

Well, Haye certainly sounded different a couple months ago. Remember this was the guy who claimed that he can knock out Klitschko that Toney was old and washed up and therefore not a worthy opponent. I remember people here saying over and over again that Toney is not legimate opponent for the Hayemaker. I think that we can all agree that this was complete nonsense.

Now all of the sudden, he is not sure anymore if he can take a punch from a heavyweight. Man, he is fighting Monte Barett. Who has Barett beaten? The only times he stepped it up, he got beaten decisively. He was knocked out by Klitschko, lost a UD to Rahman, knocked out by Valuev.

Didn't see anything wrong with what he said, personally. Mouthing off about other fighters is commonplace and he did/does it in a far more articulate manner than the likes of that fat, ******ed ****, Toney. I'd love to see Haye go places.

I agree with the author of this thread. Haye has made a fool of himself.

I think Haye was knocked down three times at CW, not two times...

I just feel Haye has put so much pressure on him now, with all his smack talking, taht it's nearly impossible for him to back it up. He's fighting a second-rater in Barrett now, and anything other than a spectacular quick stoppage will be a disappointment. However, since I think that Barrett is hungry again and wants to prove something in this fight, it won't be an easy fight for Haye. Besides the fluke loss to Couser, Barrett is usually a durable guy win or lose, and that combined with Hayes bad stamina makes me think that it will be a close fight. Don't get me wrong, I favour Haye to win, but it will probably a lackluster win against a second-rater and put Haye in a awkward position...

...unless he does get that spectacular knockout, like you say. Even if that's 'expected' it'll still be valuable.

The tough point is that unless Haye wins in less than 2, people will be going on about 'worse than Cliff Couser'...even though that loss was, by far, the worst abberation of Monte's career. Wlad had to beat the **** out of him to get him out of there in 7, even though that was years previous. Normally Monte is durable and smart enough to get through rough patches.

I agree, Strike. I've had that feeling about Carl Froch as well, because I remember watching his very first fights and there was little of the big mouth about him. Around the time he was looking to go for Euro and UK honours, boom, suddenly he's mouthing off all over. And still is, because he's not got to the level he wants yet.

Haye had hoped to **** talk his way into a title fight with Wlad. Well, it hasn't worked. The truth is that Wlad, the sanctioning bodies, and the fans will demand that David Haye work his way up to a title shot. He is not going to earn a crack at Wlad just because he is the dog that barks the loudest. I believe he's now realizing that he has his hands full in his HW title campaign. Monte Barrett will be no pushover. In fact Monte will be a difficult opponent for Haye. The truth will be clear about Haye's ability and potential at HW when the Barrett fight is over. There is a very good chance Haye could lose. I, for one, will have a pretty high opinion of him if he is able to beat Barrett convincingly.

He should have kept his mouth shut then. The Haye fans are now saying that he was just hyping the fight. A couple months ago Barett was a journeyman and now he is the next greatest thing. Again, Barett is a fringe contender because the has never beaten anyone in his long career. Beaten Barett won't prove ****. Beaten Toney, Rahman, Brewser, Aurolea would have mean a lot more.

Toney was not a worthy opponent. Well, 40 year old washed up former middleweight Toney will probably take on top 10 contender Toney Thompson in December. That is what the fans expected from Haye. Enough said.
