Is David Haye now hamstrung by the fact that he isn't a Matchroom fighter ? And therefore in a bid to secure a big fight he cannot afford to pay a mid/upper tier fighter to put him back in the mix ? Eddie Hearn recently alluded to as much a couple of month back questioning whether Haye could afford to pay even Briggs as an opponent With Haye promoting himself, and Dave Channel broadcasting his fights, who can he get ? I am sure Eddie has also asked Sky not to rush into offering to broadcast any Haye fights because they don't want to put Joshua in with anyone truly dangerous this year So what can Haye do next ? I know a lot of people brand him a coward and faker but if you look at most of his fights bar the Vlad fight, Haye is a guy who loves to fight and try and knock people out Should Haye swallow his ego and ask to sign with matchroom ? Was that offer even on the table when Eddie has AJ on the books ? Discuss
In what sense I'm no Pom Pom waver of any particular fighter, but have always enjoyed watching Haye fight from the his early CW days So for arguments sake, what do you mean exactly ? what does he need to do now ? As a boxing fan in the current climate, I struggle to see what he can do apart from go and try signing with Hearn or haymon does anyone have any insight to what he earned in these recent Dave fights ?
But will he get that call if he only fights bums ? Maybe, but not for at least another year Because I do not see Eddie wanting to rush AJ into any live opponents for at Least 12 months, and essentially the only live opponents are fury, Vlad, wilder, Ortiz , Haye and maybe a couple of other guys
I would always question the Mirror Sport reports It says "around" 1 million, the further down says " six figure payday " And then says that a sold out O2 Arena would bring in 500k , but I'm pretty sure the top tiers were not open / sold for that fighting Don't get me wrong, he is probably earning more in these comeback fights self promoting , but if he playing the long game, was it the right move Things have changed Haye was popular But Joshua is a whole different level, and Haye does not have the bargaining power he once had.......if he had made this comeback and Joshua wasn't a world ( paper ) champion it would be a different story , but that aint the case
With Bellew out of the picture now, who is it going to be for Haye? Briggs, Browne, Oquendo? Is there anybody else there? It feels like he is gunning for Browne, IMO.
Yeah good point in fact AJ said Haye needs to step up before he gets a fight. Whatever he's earning he saw to it that Nick Blackwell got a 100k from his last fight which is very commendable.
There's always the chance Haye will 'drift' for an extended period of time, generating threads on this site as possible opponents are mentioned or some negotiation saga spikes his profile. Actually, based on past history this is highly likely. As someone who has had a serious shoulder injury (from a different sport) I know it can be quite debilitating and hard to recover 100% from. Haye is coming up on 36 which is ok for a HW but surely must be an impediment to some extent on his speed. Point is: he probably has some decent options now ranging from Briggs/maybe Oquendo to better quality fighters Browne/etc. which can maybe place him for a AJ or other big fight. But in light of the context ... he might have to resort to a strategy of fighting and winning meaningful fights, instead of the artificial drama of 'Haye games' of which everyone is getting completely sick of by now.
First time posting so hello. But regarding the mirror article. The differences in money mentioned could be due to sponsorship etc. He may have been paid a 6 figure salary for the fight but as his own promoter could he also get a cut of the sponsorship he pulled in? Increasing the overall total? May be a shrewd move from him to maximise his paydays late in his career.
