David Haye on Monte Barrett before the fight was confirmed

Haye owns himself so much.

I can bet that after the fight with Barret, given he wins it, he will be claiming that he beat one of the main contenders.

 

I doubt it! Say what you will about Haye, but he always calls a spade a spade, even if, like in this case, he gets to look stupid for it.

Haye never wanted this fight; he just couldn't get a better one without losing a lot of money.

 

Eddie Chambers was right there for him, a real top 10 hw mind you. they had a deal in place and everything. what happened?

that would have been a great fight. instead we get haye vs. to quote Haye, "a 38-year old journeyman".

Barrett is as much a top 10 hw as Chambers is . If Chambers wasn't American he'd be unheard of.

I agree that Monte is old and not an elite hw but at least he can punch and will test Haye's chin. He's also durable so won't fold like a deck chair.

2) did he say that before or after Barrett knocked out Tye Fields

 

First off Barrett has never been known as a puncher. And secondly he was stopped by Cliff Couser in 2 rounds last year. And Eddie Chambers has good wins over guys like Calvin Brock and Guinn and Rossy. I doubt he would be unheard of if he wasn't American.:-(

 

He says Barrett would be just another 38-year journeyman who has been KOed a couple of times and who hadn't had any big wins, if he had not KOed Fields - "that slow brick wall". He says that if Barrett would have another couple of big wins and got himself into the top 10, he'd consider it, but until then..."he's just another old journeyman".

 

no way dude. eddie chambers is a real top 10 guy. he has fought solid oppposition lately. guinn, brock, povetkin, butler. the man has tremendous skills. he is tricky in the pocket and has a good jab, goes to the body, handspeed, solid chin.

barrett is tough but he lacks that handspeed and his punches lack the crispness. he's more of a brawler but he does have power. he's been very inconsistent. he's a top 20-25 guy imo

haye missed out on an opportunity to make a real statement. sparking out a "38 year old journeyman" will not be as impressive.

had haye-chambers come off, i would have taken eddie. haye is not very busy, keeps low and leans forward. i reckon chambers would have tagged him all night with that right hand.

 

He said that Barrett is a 38 year old journey men and he doesn't want to fight him and it was after the Fields fight.

 

I would like haye if it wasnt for his big mouth. I dont even have a problem with talking **** but do something first before you start talking ****
