Not a surprise. I said right after the Wlad fight, when people were banding about names such Arreola and Povetkin, that Haye's ego would be too big to consider going back to the grind of fighting mediocrity.
In the minority here but i'm a little dissapointed he's packed it in. He's still got a good few fights left in him but i just think once he really started to earn the big bucks he lost the desire and hunger, couldn't be arsed knowing there was no need as he himself was set up for life.
We should all chip in and buy Haye a gold clock. It is a shame though. There is so much he can still achieve.
As a once great fighter who turned into a bonafide **** who wanted to stab people in the back FROM THE FRONT!
there seems to be some rewriting of history on this thread about hayes performance against Klit. eg when haye expolded klit couldmnt live with him. dominated 12 th round. hurt klit far more than other way round. as i remember it he did **** all in that fight and maybe made klit slightly uncomfortable in the 12th. he did far worse than quite a few people did against klit and fought like a ***** with no tactical nous. was quite happy to lose and showed no balls. i normally alwys support boxers but he let himself down so badly he deserves both barrells. i used to e a big fan but as others have said he gradulally alienated me. i loved having an articulate , intelligent boxer on prime tiome flying the flag for the sport but it went all wrong for me.
If he thinks he can retire with some sort of legacy he is sadly mistaken. Thought he was a lot better than he was in reality. He couldn't deliver after all his hype and now retires without having done anything of any note in the heavyweight division.
Has Haye actually announced it? Seems odd that a media ***** like David would miss the opportunity to break it himself.
Well it is historically very new compared to the more established weight classes, however I would have Haye in the top ten to ever compete at that weight, but you do have a point, CW is never gonna be a marquee weight class. However I do still enjoy re-watching Carl Thompson's exploits at the weight.
It's pretty sad when people take The Sun as gospel on this subject. I wouldn't be surprised if the comments from Smith turn out to be fabricated.
