He plans to retire he said that he will retire when he turns 31, he said that ages ago so its clearly a PLANED retirement. If you love the sport how can you PLAN you retirement? You fight, and retire when you feel that you loosing boxing guts, or when you feel that your not as strong as you used to be. This is a bit of the subject but look at Alex Ferguson. He meant to retire long time ago, but he remained as clubs manager. He loves hes job and it's clearly in his heart. He said he will only quit when he will be physically and mentally incapable. I know that boxing is a completely different sport, BUT, who the hell retires in their prime? I don't understand that. He needs to first of all - wash his mouth (with fairy, it will probably do the job), second - keep fighting and stay active proving to the world that He is a worthy champions. I know he doesn't have much chance against Wlad, but as least he can fight other fighters to improve his heavyweight resume. If he follows steps one and two listed above, he will get a lot of respect from other boxing fans. If however he retires with money( provided by Wlad) then there is no place for him in history :hi:
I hate Teddy Atlas but one thing he always brings up about this type of situation is that it's never a good sign for a fighter to have 1 foot out the door before a fight.
For getting dropped like a sack of potatoes on the 2nd. But he should though to be honest. Ya gotta have a pair to be willing to get starched in front of a world wide audience. :thumbsup
Haye never said he loved the sport. He loves money and fame. He's not a boxer - he is a athlete. Boxing is just something he uses to attain a certain lifestlye. He wont need boxing when he becomes a Hollywood action hero.
The sport of boxing gives very little back to most fighters and fans. By that, I mean, the system is rigged in favour of promoters and Sanctioning Boards. Many people choose to retire in their prime, and be remembered at their best, as opposed to their worst. Imagine if Tyson retired before the Buster Douglas fight? Imagine if Ali stopped fighting in the late 70s? Look at Holyfield? You're getting punched in the head in the sport of boxing. Never criticise somebody for retiring. I'm not saying he's retiring too soon, but every boxer is always one punch away from turning into a vegetable. As for Alex Ferguson - He's a manager. Like a boxing trainer. If he was a player, it would be an entirely different argument.
Who cares what happens down the road... He is set to face the best heavyweight in the world, I'm just ready for it..
Imagine if Roy Jones retired after he defeated John Ruiz!!! Haye planned retirement on his 31st birthday the day he turned pro.
