David Haye the Cruiserweight appreciation thread

A very good cruiser, an explosive & risk-taking puncher who could climb off the canvas to win.

Where does he rank all-time in a young division?

 

Right behind Fields?

 

Behind whom? There aren't that many standouts.

 

There aren't many standouts, but doing an honest appraisal of his record he can't be any higher than 7-8.

all have better resumes for starters, David beat a few goodish contenders and didn't waste time fighting average opponents with pretty looking records, and at world level had two impressive stoppage wins over Mormeck and Enzo.

At heavy he sucked, and sucked bad, but it's a separate discussion entirely.

 

His reign was very short in truth, Mromeck and Enzo his only two world title fights. He did ok but nothing amazing the whole Division has not been the best over the years.

 

Haye only has 3 or 4 good names on his record at cruiserweight and that'll go against him a bit. I know you can rip apart any record but Mormeck put him down and was more or less finished, Enzo has been knocked out by almost every half decent cruiserweight he's fought and the other good wins are Gurov and Fragomeni. Hardly stand out names even in such a weak division.

But he was definitely really exciting at cruiser and sadly it all went wrong when Setanta folded

 

None of them had long reigns though. Even Qawi only had a few title fights, went 2-3 (obviously the standarrd was much higher). Mormeck/Bell had mixed success. Just a boring and fractured division.

 

He rates just behind Cunnigham.

 

Cruiserweight is a nothing division IMO. In the annals of boxing history, it means very little.

 

its not that wild an assertion rob - haye beat enzo (at this point is that something to boast about) and a good win over mormeck

cunningham has hung around cruiser for a long time at world level
