David Haye to return May 21st!!

In fairness, Povetkin has a better chance against Haye than Wladimir. Wladimir’s size, reach and jab would make Povetkin’s swarming aggression ineffective. But Haye doesn’t use his own natural gifts consistently because he’s always looking for the knockout – as a result he sometimes forgets to set up his shots.

He also doesn’t like when he has to work round after round, preferring to set his own pace (though I don’t believe he still has stamina problems - when have we seen him gas since the Thomson fight?) Povetkin, at the very least, sets a high pace even down the stretch.

So he has stylistic strengths against Haye, including that his technique’s not bad for a heavyweight. Alas, he lacks serious firepower so he’d have to hope he could take Haye into the later rounds and tire him out. His defence is nothing to shout about, so he’d probably take a fight-ending shot by the mid-rounds.

 

Haye vs Povetkin is a good fight but PR wise its a nightmare. What would they call it "Battle of the Ducks?"
