G-Man remains one of the most overrated performers of the last 20 years IMO.

Okay, at Cruiser he would be fighting at his natural weight (had to drain big time to make 160/168) and had a good chin and big power, but everything else about him was average.

Most importantly, his lack of defence would see him sparked here, inside a round IMo. No doubt he'd have the power to take Haye out, but Haye is the bigger man and if G-Man came out as he usualyl did he'd walk into all sorts and get wiped out.

G-Man beat a post-Hagler Mugabi, whose punch resistance was all over the place, and a nigh on blind Jackson. He was the Valero of his day IMO, completely overrated and manafactured.

A monster puncher at middleweight against a monster puncher at cruiserweight?

    I'll pick the cruiserweight.

Haye's punch resistance may not be as good as McClellan's P-4-P, but Gerald is no defensive whizz from what I can remember and he wouldn't be able to take Haye's punches for long. I would assume Haye would have a substantial reach advantage as well, and he's super fast at the CW limit.

    Listen Claypole,

He didnt land much leather on Benn.

The first round was when he landed the most leather on Benn.

After that 1st round - Benn worked out McCllellan just likes to throw long straight shots and ducked and weaved them all night long.

But during that 1st round when Benn was kncoked out of the ring - he said he could not believe how hard McCllellan hit him - and it was without doubt the hardest he had ever been hit in his life - with a punch or anything else.

Haye is only slightly the bigger man.

    Haye 6,3" in height.

McCellellan a huge Middleweight - 6,1" and was very rangy.

This thread is about McClellan v Haye at cruiserweight, not SMW, or P4P. When (not if) Haye landed it would be the hardest McClellan would ever have been hit.

James toney was pretty succesful when he moved to cruiserweight. I don't think its unreasonable to think gerald would have been decent too. Toney was at 190 mind you.

    Ok fair point.

But the most success he had was in the first round.

Claypole suggested that McCllellan could not put a Super Middleweight away let alone a Crusierweight.

But in that first round - he nearly put away Benn quciker than anyone.

He did not have such a big round as that opening round because Benn was ducking and weaving out of most shots.

In the 2nd round - in stark comparsion to the 1st round - McCllellan landed next to nothing - as Benn ducked and weaved and landed his own big hooks.

McCllellan had a big 8th round - but he never had a big as round as the 1st round.

Yeah, but he didn't did he?

The reason why he couldn't follow up on his success wasn't just because Benn was ducking and weaving. It was Benn's punching that mainly beat McClellan.

    Styles make fights.

I expect Haye and McCllellan would have been a even bigger shoot out that against Benn.

If McCllellan could land his bombs early there would be some serious chaos heading David Hayes way.

Equally though - Haye would probaly land big bombs early.

So this would be a real explosive war - ending inside 3 rounds.

The poll clearly favours Haye man .Not sure tbh hard one to pick .I read Mclellan would probably give prime RJJ his toughest test and Mclellan RJJ was one of the best amatuer fights ever plus RJJ won a belt at heavyweight so I think it would atleast be competitive

The complete lack of an uppercut probably cost McClellan the stopagge in the 1st round IMHO. Benn was bent over virtually begging for the punch up though the middle but McClellan just kept winging in wide hooks that went over Benns head.

G-Man also missed having Steward to train him. It was a rookie error not using the uppercut.

What did Eubank take Benn out with?
