How would Haye do against the following British heavies ?

    Tommy Farr
    Henry Cooper
    Joe Bugner
    Frank Bruno
    Gary Mason
    Lennox Lewis

From what I've seen they would all beat Haye.

But Haye might show us he's better than his past performances when he fights Wlad next month. So I might well change my mind.

At the moment, David Haye rates about the same as Herbie Hide.

Tommy Farr would outbox him. Farr wasn't a big puncher but Haye might gas out and give Farr a stoppage win. Depends on the distance, i suppose.

Henry Cooper would probably KO Haye early. But Haye has a chance here to KO Cooper. Cooper's the better boxer.

Joe Bugner would win an easy decision.

Frank Bruno ? Yes, even Bruno would beat Haye. Probably murder him inside 3 rounds.

Gary Mason would be too strong and durable for him. He'd take a few lumps while he tries to catch up with Haye, but Haye slows and gets KO'd sometime around the 6th round.

Lennox Lewis - would look very similar to Lewis-Morrison. Watch Wlad on July 2nd do a more boring version of that, with less variety - result about the same.

I tend to agree with you. Haye has n't really been tested at heavyweight yet. A lumbering giant such as Valuev, and a frightened Fraudley Harrison are no markers.

This months Boxing Monthly has an article in their build up of Haye v Klitschko with likely results against past British heavies. Minus Mason but including Don Cockell and Herbie Hide. Interesting reading.
    This is how Graham Houston has them;
    v Lewis = Lewis KO8
    v Bruno = Haye KO7
    v Hide = Haye KO4
    v Cockell = Haye KO6
    v Bugner = Haye W12
    v Cooper = Haye KO6
    v Farr = Haye W12
Like has already been said we will know more after july 2nd.

I love how these British magazines are having Haye beat all these past greats and proven heavyweights of yesteryear - to hype up this fight.
If Haye turns out to be absolutely dismal against Klitschko some of those picks will look even more comical than they do already.

Some of those picks are just a little bit disrespectful, tbh.

For a British magazine to say he'd outpoint Tommy Farr is a bit off really. Many of the people reading that probably don't even know Farr, and their introduction to him has him getting outboxed by Haye.

you WON'T know anymore after July 2cd.

like Big Klit is suddenly the historical = sign or something...

IF Haye wins (which I think he can & should), well Big Klit was no elite HW anyway, and IF Haye losses, which he could, then he's an automatic write off, isn't he.

Haye's a good enough HW to contend with any HW, but the Elite, Louis, Ali, Foreman, Holmes, Charles, Marciano, Tyson, J J Walcot and others yet you can't rule out would beat him most of the time if not always!!!

Britain doesn't have a long line of HW elite, but the better matches would be

Haye vs Farr, Woodcock, and Bugner...
these 3 could beat Haye, but likewise he could spring that KO punch of his into effect and turn the fight around. Him and Woodcock would be good anyone of them could go, and Farr & Bugner could edge him in both skill and DURABILTY!

we've already got what we've got in Haye which is a damn fine KO fighter with a suspect chin of his own, makes it even more exciting!

as I say you've already got what you've got in Haye.

    Good post that.
Wlad is the big test for Haye at heavyweight no matter how we view the ukrainian. Maybe your right in that that we already know what we have in Haye, but i for one will learn a lot more about him has a heavy on July 2nd.

Graham Houston obviously knows nothing about British Boxing history.. i would like to see Haye beat Wlad next month but in all honest i don't give him much chance and see him stinking the place out before getting KOd or DSQ for not fighting.. IMO all those past fighters would KO Haye on his showing so far at Heavyweight.

Wladmir is good enough to show what Haye's got.

I think Haye would likely defeat Farr, Cooper and Mason, though neither fight is a given. Farr was small and did not hit hard enough. Cooper was rather flawed with a good left hook. Mason...can't say he was very distinguished outside of the UK.

I would favor Bugner, and Bruno to defeat Haye, with Haye have a chance to upset Bruno via stoppage, or out box Bugner.

    Lewis destroys Haye early.

Best guess 3-3 here for Haye.

Tommy Farr was as heavy as Haye, probably only 2 inches shorter, and far more proven at the top level.
He beat Max Baer, gave Joe Louis a good competitive 15 rounds, was probably unlucky to have the Lou Nova and Jimmy Braddock decisions go against him.
He boxed better than Haye, and was more durable, better chin, better stamina.
And he actually fought top young heavyweights.

I don't think Haye would last more than 5 rounds against Lewis, Bruno or Mason.

Cooper has a bad size disadvantage, but he did drop & badly hurt a young Clay with his famous left hook. Both could win by early KO, a favour Cooper slighty due to his style.

Hide would be a 50/50 slugfest which ends quite early. Herbie has an even weaker chin than David, but i think he punches harder.

Haye wins a close decision in a skinky fight with Bugner. :tired

I don't know enough about the others to comment.

Note: Until Haye has fought Wlad, he will still be an untested Heavyweight enigma.
