http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qE-pQ0ajED8 [yt]qE-pQ0ajED8[/yt] Some more bits from my post fight analysis: Both men were going for the Knockout but were fighting within their styles. Wlad had close opportunities were he nearly KO'd Haye only missing by a small margin. Haye was trying to finish Wlad with the overhand right. Wlad surprised me by coming out and taking the center of the ring and forcing Haye to the ropes from the get-go. By doing so it nullified Haye's ability to attack from different angles, notice how Haye had the most success when fighting in the center of the ring and not off the ropes. I noticed Haye would taunt Wlad and Wlad would grin and reply with a ****ing quick 1-2 that Haye barely slips. The biggest detriment of Haye's style was his low punch output, by not keeping a high level of activity he never put Wlad in constant danger, therefore because Wlad fights very tight he was never going to gas himself out. This was his biggest stylistic disadvantage apart from the height/size difference. Wlad shut down Haye's offense by holding his left arm to block David's Hayemakers from the right side from hitting his chin. In the latter stages of the fight he had Haye timed defensively. He would duck and roll off the punch with his shoulder. The most significant punch came in the Round 12 which was the only clean punch in the whole fight. It was a very cagey affair of An ambush fighter versus a Stand-Up European style fighter who boxes behind his Jab. Great defence from both fighters. One of the greatest sparring matches of our era.
Ok it wasn't a great fight if your looking for all out action but the defense from both fighters, wlad with his foot movement and Haye with his upper body movement was hugely impressive. I guess only the purists will appreciate that part
Wow. I mean, good quality of video, but holy **** are you biased! Big Haye fan, eh? Geez, you'd think from watching this that Haye would have won more than 3 rounds. Not a video which does the fight justice. Was thinking the same thing. Haye moved his head real, real well.
Very good, Tezel, this is a quite different highlight video though, I agree with MickeyBlueEyess it is not to show the offensive attacks, it is showing the elusive defense both Wlad and David displayed.
Well if you had one where you were genuinely showing all the explosive offense, it would be about 1:10 long.
Nonito I included both attacks from both fighters, all the flush punches from each fighter which barely landed. A very cagey affair. Let's call it an action/drama highlight because most of the time it was Wlad pawing his Jab and Haye evading. I would have never added the times when Haye flopped to floor if I was completely biased. Re-watch the fight in its enitery. Most of the highlights were included to demonstrate Wlad's defensive ability, even when Haye tries to throw Hayemaker after Hayemaker he couldn't get Wlad flush. Look at the 1-2 combination from Wlad at 1:11, if that landed I think Haye could have been seriously hurt or knocked out.
I may have sounded a bit harsh... Apologies. But good response. Lets just say it was not a fight which would translate to highlights very well... And I suppose the flashiness of Haye's punches "create the most excitement." I don't know, maybe a couple more random unanswered jabs from Wlad here and there would have illustrated the outcome of the fight more. If someone woke up from a coma, knew nothing of either guy, and watched the highlight they'd probably say Haye won or that it was an even fight... I guess that's my complaint, but as I said in my first post, the quality and cuts are bueno.
Look at 2.05 mins Wlad catches him big , has him stuck to the ropes with Haye giving nothing back and instead of taking control and unloading a barrage of punches that would probobaly of downed Haye, he just leans on his shoulders. The guy cant box. Its that simple. Take a look at Froch, who people say isn't all that skilled, in the same situation. He has his man stunned against the ropes, stays composed, takes a little step back, finds the openings and sends in power shots on target.
Mminimum skilled Ibeabuchi put prime Byrd away in 5 rounds, Wlad could only scrape out a points win and 7 years later it took him 7 rounds to ko a shot to absolute **** Byrd. He's technically deficient boxer who had no answer to a bit of head movement from Haye.
