I am as confident of a Vitali victory as I was against Peter. This is a bad style match up for Haye just like it was for Peter.

I am nt comparing Haye to Peter but with Haye keeping his left hand so low and his questionable Chin that could spell disaster for him.

I do not see this fight going 12 rounds anyway so that will not be an issue.

I have already said that a win for Haye wouldn't shock me. Vitali will be 38 years old, and has only fought once in 4 years.

Fair enough you're stating that now.

    Who are you picking?

Lacy was never anything better than a decent banger, anyone who saw the Sheika fight knew Calzaghe would outbox him. That win is nowhere near as impressive as his wins over Kessler or Hopkins. However, David Haye is more than a decent banger. He has power, heart and skills. He is a former unified cruiserweight world champion. Whoever wins between Haye and Vitali deserves enormous credit, it's a great fight. I think Vitali would win by KO in the mid-late rounds, but I would be hoping and praying for Haye to win, and I think David definitely has a chance.

If Haye beats Vitali, he'll thrash Wlad to within an inch of his life. Wlad would HATE to have to fight David Haye

I think it's for the good of boxing if Haye wins: Vitali is older and can't have long left. Furthermore, we will never see the a fully unified Champion at the weight as long as he refuses to fight Wlad....

If Haye wins, it sets up a potential mega fight with a vengeful Wlad with 3 of the 4 belts on the line....

Could be great....but it's a big ask to get past Vitali.

If had I had to bet on a winner, it would be Vitali. However, I have no illusions about what another year of inactivity, and age will do to him. We simply have no idea how Vitali will be able to perform by June of next year, especially given his previous injuries. Apart from most other people... I didn't think that Vitali looked exactly like his old self when he beat Peter. Great win, yes... but he was definitely slower in his movements that he was before he retired. Against a more explosive fighter like Haye, that could turn out to be a very bad thing.

When you look at the two fighters on paper, Haye is basically built to lose to Vitali. Wild, lunging shots, leaving himself wide open to counter. Given Vitali's height advantage and great reflexes... you can see him ducking back out of range and countering all night long. However, we are basing that off of what Vitali was 5 years removed from this fight.

However, being forced to pick a winner... I would still have to go with Vitali. If Haye beats him... even a 38 year old Vitali.... I would be VERY impressed. It would also make the WLad vs Haye showdown HUGE.

I think Haye could beat Wlad, but I don't think he could beat Vitali. I agree a Haye win would be great for boxing though. Vitali can't have long left as you say, and Wlad is one of the most soporific fighters I have ever seen in a ring, I ****ing detest watching him fight.

Nice post, pretty much what I think through and through. I think people are counting out Haye too hastily on this one, though I do acknowledge the huge task (quite literally) he has in beating Vitali....

I've always liked both Klits, with a preference for Wlad but I'm coming and more round to the fact that a Haye victory would be good for boxing, for the reason that as you say, it would make a Wlad-Haye match utterly huge and the biggest fight the division has seen since Lewis-Tyson.

Wlad's alot more safety first these days, and it is without a doubt very effective is his current style. However, back in the early part of his career, he was offense minded and some of kos were truely spectatcular...

With that being said, I did enjoy his wins against Peter, Byrd and Austin...where his new style has been in effect.

People have been attacking him in regards to entertainment mainly since the Ibragimov fight (rightly so as it was ****ing terrible and I regret staying up to watch it, even as a Wlad fan).

I would be shocked if Haye would manage to win somehow (by UD, SD, KO). I don't think he has a chance. More likely the hell freezes over...

IF Haye manages to win then there can't be any excuses.

The real Haye haters will tarnish the win and knock him for it. I will simply take it for what it is, if he wins convincingly or by KO then give him credit he beat a 6'7" man who was never really dominated in the ring before. Vitali at 37-38 years old is still a great boxer and obviously hard to beat no matter who you are in the HW division today. Sure it might not be the most impressive win he can get but definitely a good one and should be recognised for doing a great job. Some will say Haye is now the best HW in the world after defeating Vitali (quite delusional), and some will say "It meant nothing, Vitali is old and shot" (also delusional). I will say good job Haye but you have more to do.

His last 3 fights have been three of the worst fights I've ever seen. I can't watch him anymore, it's horrible, he is so terrified he'll get clipped that he is now the most comatose-inducing boxer on the planet. It is indeed effective though. Until he fights someone with the speed and skill to get around that jab and attack that well-hidden chin, he will keep winning... and boring everyone to death. Jab jab jab. Prod prod prod. Dull dull dull.

Yep, only the most ardent fans would deny that his fights this year haven't been the best. He has improved his resume though, that much is true.

Some will try to denigrate a win over Vitali if Haye does pull it off. It will mark them down as ****wits though.

Vitali is quite simply the toughest fight at HW for Haye all things considered. Should he win I would rank it very highly... and the Wlad - Haye showdown would be huge.

Props to David "Balls of Steel" Haye for taking the fight with Vitali knowing he is the big underdog.
