That was almost 2 years ago, and personally I thought he looked terrible against an opponent who to be fair is god damn awful. Sure Toney still looks OK against this level of opposition but put him in with an actual top 10 heavy and he won't look as slick as he did. I am a big Toney fan and would love it he could get himself in decent shape not just for his boxing but his for his health and then some how earn a title shot but it just isn't going to happen. I won't delude myself into thinking he is back to his old self just because he looks OK against this level of opposition. Hell people said Jones Jr looked OK against Lacy and Trinidad (I was not one of them) and when he stepped up he got embarrassed.
You know what, it really wouldn't surprise me one bit if Haye's next fight is James Toney. What are Haye's options now? Mormeck - a good fight, but probably wouldn't do that much business. Holyfield - his hw pedigree is just as shabby as Toney's over the last couple of years, but no-one wants to see Holyfield beaten again, I think many people want to see James beaten. Plus Evander doesn't bring the trash talk that Toney does. Still, considering Haye has fought Barrett and Ruiz at hw, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he picked Holy. Povetkin - AWOL due to Teddy Atlas's lack of faith in him as a contender. The Chisora/Fury winner - this is the most realistic option, but I don't know if Haye would be that motivated to fight a domestic fighter who'd never fought at world level yet. Helenius - the reward would not match the risk. I honestly do think Toney is the best option. Haye will feel, rightly or wrongly, that he can beat Toney in style to regain some pride and momentum, and he knows Toney brings the name, the trash-talk, the American interest, and all the money that goes with it. David Haye vs James Toney in October in London. Believe it.
Toney will never get a big fight in boxing again because of his terrible showing against Couture. He embarrassed boxing against Couture and no promter or boxer worth a toss want's to take the risk of getting beaten by a man who was made to look like an absolute joke against an MMA guy. They don't want the casual fans saying how Toney was able to beat a top contender in boxing but sucked absolute ass in MMA.
IMO, james toeny stands a better chance against Vitali than Haye. Haye is just so quick and mover very well. Toney is too old for ****, he needs a stationary guy. I believe that Toney outpoints old Vitali who unlike Wlad never had the balls to fights him.
Don't be a ****ing moron. Anyone who knows anything about boxing and/or about MMA knew exactly what was going to happen to Toney, so did Toney himself, he just needed the fast, easy $500K. MMA is a completely different sport and skillset from boxing, a guy as experienced as Couture would've handled any active boxer just as easily as he handled Toney, as a boxing stance leaves you wide open for a wrestling takedown, and a boxer moving to MMA has no time to learn sufficient BJJ to defend themselves once on the ground. Your post is an absolute joke, and you have no right to have an MMA avatar when you don't even understand the first thing about the sport.
Toney has been calling out David Haye for years. And it would have been a good, interesting fight. Haye wanted nothing to do with Toney, too risky. Haye preferred to fight guys like Monte Barrett or Audley Harrisson instead.. But it wouldn't surprise me if Haye wanted to fight Toney now. Now that Toney is 42 years old, inactive and terribly out of shape even for his standards. Now that the risk has become so much less and a Haye victory would be so much easier. It would be just so typical.. It would be typical for Haye and for the state of boxing the last 5 years.
Vitali Klitschko can not deal with Toney's style. That is why only his little brother was willing to take on Toney in the past. Toney would get inside the stationary Vitali and outpoint him. As for HAye, he is too quick with his hands and feet for toney.
You don't seem to understand the point I was trying to make, oh well. atsch I know how MMA works I'm a hardcore fan and have followed the sport from almost the beginning. atsch
