Toney wins...if Haye can keep on his feet long enough, he should get a good boxing lesson from "Lights Out."

Haye is a flash in the pan and will never fight anyone threatening before he gets a title shot...Toney would make Haye look like some UFC guy in the ring.

I'd say James just based on the fact he's fought at heavyweight. I also think he's more durable and his skills would overcome the Hay-makah

How would a fight between these two turn out?

Well Hayes biggest assets are his punching power and his speed. Punching power is not effective against Toney, it's difficult to land good clean punches on the defensive master that Toney still is, and even if you do, Toney still got one of the best chins in boxing. Toney hasn't been knocked out or even been on the edge of being knocked out in 80 pro fights - many of these fights against better fighters than Haye, and also against some bigger punchers than Haye.
As for the speed, it's clear that Haye has the edge here over old Toney. I still doubt that the faster Haye could outwork an in shape Toney for 10 or 12 rds tho. Because Haye always had stamina issues, and he will also have them at HW, where he's even heavier and more muscular. He can not stop Toney, so will he be able to go 10 or 12 intensive rds with Toney at a fast pace? I highly doubt it. I just checked on boxrec, how many times did Haye have to fight more than 8 rds? Only 2 times... While Haye might outwork Toney for the first half of the fight, I think he will gas somewhere in the middle rounds - while Toney stays relaxed and will catch up in the middle-late rounds.

Toney is past his best, but he's not shot. He has something left. He proved that in his last fight. If he can get himself in decent shape again, let's say between 220 and 225 lbs (he was 226lbs in his last fight, so it's not impossible), I see Toney countering the **** out of Haye after Haye throws and misses his renowned 'Hayemakers'. Haye has terrible defense, he leaves himself open after throwing his punches, Toney will see it and capitalize on it. Believe me, Toneys precise right hand will find its mark. He will wear Haye down. Haye will be gassed by the 6th or 7th round, and since we all know that he has a shaky chin, it's not even impossible that Toney stops him in the late rds, after punishing him hard.

Let me put it like this, Toney stopping Haye is far more possible than Haye stopping Toney.

If the fat version of Toney from Rahman I shows up, I can see Haye winning a close decision.
If the ok version of Toney from Rahman II shows up, I have Toney winning by UD.
If Toney can lose a couple more pounds and shake off some ring rust, I can even see Toney winning the fight by late TKO.

As many observers, I doubt this one will happen. I will wait for Haye's official announcement, scheduled for mid September, before speculating about the outcome...

JT by KO or UD...either way a win. Haye gets out classed...point blank. There will be no answers for the defensive prowess and counter punching ability that James has for the green HW. It will be a schooling, but I think David does well in spots.

Toney would probably knockout the "HypeMaker" late in the fight, you must remember, Haye has been floored by Mormeck, Mock, and laid the **** out by Thompson, Toney hits way harder than all 3 of them, and even at this late stage in his career, has more boxing skills than anybody Haye has ever stepped in the ring with.

I think Toney would set a few traps early, maybe even let Haye think he's going out while on the ropes, and come out of nowhere with a combination that cracks Haye's glass jaw, and at least floors him. I just Toney playing possum all night and until he finds the right time to strike and then will see what Haye is made of.

Not sure how 'laid he **** out' actually means floored once and stopped on his feet by his corner because he was totally gassed, but I guess it must cause that's what happens. Seriously the fight is on youtube, watch it if you want to comment about it.

I think Thompson's power is comparable to Toney's, conveniently the only fight Haye has lost but that was more to do with stamina issues than being hurt.

Toney hasn't managed to knock anyone out for 5 years but he has been fighting heavyweights and did manage to stop Holyfield in his first fight at the wait. He had pretty decent power at Cruiserweight and that's all it will take if he can land clean with a good few hard shots.

However the whole problem here is some people are too delusional to see that Toney is shot.

He was easily outboxed by Sam ****ing Peter in their second fight and in his next fight after that won a split decision against Danny.........Batchelder, he was stunned in that fight too and Batchelder himself wasn't a puncher at Light-Heavyweight. Luckily for Toney Batchedler tested positive for steroids aswell as him for that fight so he still got the win on the record.

and now because he was competitive with a similarly shot Raham(you could have it 2 rounds to 1 either way) Toney is apparently still a threat ?

Look at the trouble Rahman had with Taurus Sykes and Zuri Lawrence, if Toney had something left at heavy he would of looked a lot better than he did against Rahman. People gaining inspirement from those 3 rounds are in for a letdown, not even Toney being the lightest he has in 5 years is enough to keep him an active threat now.

If Haye fights smart, stays nippy on his toes and lands consistently on Toney, (who for the sake of argument, comes in in his usual shape) I reckon he could stun him and get a TKO.

But Its a difficult fight to call. Toney could land a nice counter, and get one himself. But if Sam Peter can outbox him for 12 rounds, I think its fair to say Haye could.

I hear what your saying, but unlike Haye, Toney has proven himself at Heavyweight, fighting alot of the top names in the division and either winning or being highly competitive, he fought WBA title holder Ruiz, decent version of Holyfield, just crowned WBC title holder Rahman, fought the extremely dangerous puncher in Peter in two title eliminator fights. Toney has felt Heavyweight power and took it well, Haye hasnt, but has been knocked down and out by Thompson who dropped him with pretty light punches.

Toney was a pretty hard puncher at Cruiser, giving Jirov one hell of a beating in the 02 fight of the year, hurting him a few times along the way. He also was only the second man to knockout Holyfield, pretty impressive for decent punching Cruiser. I'm not saying Toney will walk through Haye, but all 3 of the guys that knocked Haye down or out, are not even in the same league as a James Toney, in every aspect. I understand Toney is getting old, but he's still a good fighter when in shape, and as I perdicted, looked to be on his way to knocking out Haseem Rahman until the fight was stopped/Rahman quit.

I hope Toney/Haye gets made, it will either show how weak Hayes chin truly is or how effective he can be against a tough veteran.
