Mormeck is 35, coming off 2 wars with Bell, and probably on the way down. This looks to be the end of the road for him. This is basically a passing of the torch fight but u know what...the torch isn't changing hands so easily. Bell made Mormeck very uncomfortable with his workrate and style but that won't happen here. Haye's a more conventional fighter. He can bang no doubt but Mormeck's got a chin. Haye's a talented fighter and his chances of winning this fight are good but if he thinks he's gonna walk in there and blow Jean Marc out like he did Gurov and Bonin he's got another thing coming. Mormeck can fight and it seems alot of people are overlooking this.
Thats actually one of the big keys to the fight. How Haye will be mentally once he connects and thows alot of **** at Mormeck and he is still there coming at Haye throwing nasty body shots along with constant pressure. Haye better fight smart and use his god given talent cause his ego can land him in a world of trouble.:good
I heard he was a model at one point. His ego may end up being his undoing in boxing. If Mormeck shows that he can take Haye's punches (something I think he is entirely capable of doing) it's gonna be a long night for the Brit. You are correct, we'll see how much substance Haye has if he hits Mormeck flush and nothing happens. I'm interested to see what Mormeck has left in the tank at 35 following the Bell fights. This may be his last hurrah so expect him to fight accordingly.
News about Mormeck. It seems the interview Mormeck gave to L'Equipe ("My next fight could be against Tiozzo...without the titles") was a smoke screen. He will come to win. He is very dedicated, he wants to be 100% and he takes Haye VERY seriously. The goal has not changed, Mormeck still wants to obtain the 3 main belts to be considered as the undisputed champion at cruiser (he never obtained the IBF belt). A defeat against Haye would mean the end of his dream. Mormeck chose to keep Giachetti (former coach of Larry Holmes) in his corner but they changed the preparation. Preparation for Bell 2 was in Monaco (alt 10m) , this time Mormeck prepares in L'Alpe d'Huez (alt 1860m) and La Bourboule (alt 850m) . The goal is simple : improving the condition and the stamina. Comments from Giachetti about Haye : "What I know about Haye is that he failed at the olympics as an amateur. It seems he has problems to take big punches." Mormeck just said "I will come to defend my belts against David Haye. It is a big risk. But I don't see why I couln't be better than him". Mormeck hasn't been so serious for ages : it seems Haye is considered as a big threat ! Haye will have to fight a top shape version of Mormeck and it's a good thing for him : nobody will contest Haye is the man at cruiser if he destroys Mormeck in a couple of rounds.
It's so obvious that Haye isn't a Warren fighter as he's clearly not being protected from anyone. Compare his opposition to Macranelli's, it's laughable.
What is this joke ? Maccarinelli fought Braithwaite and he couldn't fight Fragomeni ? Even if Braithwaite has much faded since Mormeck, he was once the number 1 at cruiser. Big Truck destroyed solid guys like Brown, Cantatore, Azille etc. He was still a better test than the old Fragomeni who stuggled in his hometown against Serrat...
Haye certainly has potential, but he has to prove it to me first. Mormeck is a seasoned champion with experience in big title fights. He does sometimes fail to pace himself, but in the rematch with Bell his stamina was much better. Age could always be a factor here, but I think Mormeck has the experience, strength and relentless pressure to wear Haye down if he doesn't get caught early, and probably take a grinder type decision. Mormeck is my pick here until Haye shows himself to be a champion. Maybe he does that here, but I still say JMM by UD. How does it look to be the end of the road? Simply because he's 35? Well, maybe, but he sure didn't show it in the Bell rematch. He fought a great fight there and proved himself to be the best Cruiser in the world. Nothing yet has indicated at all that he's shot.
Haye TKO2 Mormeck. Haye has TOO much power and catapults to superstar status with a devastating battering of Mormeck. But if Mormeck survives beyond 4 rounds I fancy him to stop a tiring Haye in the mid to late rounds much like Carl Thompson did. Haye may have learnt from that loss but he's tight at 200 pounds and I believe this will show in a longer fight.
I can't believe people still go on about Haye having stamina issues. The Thompson fight was a fair while ago and looked okay against Fragomeni. Producing a KO in the ninth round of fight like that would suggest he's probably all right when it comes down to stamina.
