I can't give Haye much of a chance here. Even if they opted to fight at cruiser weight ( a division Spinks never stepped foot in ) I'd still confidently pick Spinks. Michael had nearly every tool that made a great champion, ie, ring smarts, speed, stamina, chin, heart, power, generalship, etc.. Haye is a good "athlete" but his success as a "prize fighter" was the product of careful match making and a weak era.
Yes, Spink's first opponent ever at heavyweight and one that was probably still more formidable than anyone Haye ever beat. Who did David face his first time above 200?
Against the run of opinion I think this would have been a great fight at cruiserweight. I don't think Haye would have fought scared like he did against Wlad as he'd be the bigger man. Spinks was class and would probably out point the inactive Haye but holyfield aside Haye had the power to potentially stop any cruiserweight in the categories short history.
Spinks cuts him down, making him look amateur. His jittery movement , feints and awkward angles would have Haye swinging at nothing , getting ripped to pieces as he looks to re adjust himself.
Haye is overrated as ****. He has a quick and powerful right hand, and athleticism. What about everything else? His actual skills are not impressive.
I actually think this is a good fight. Spinks has the better resume but Haye is very fast and had an explosive punch. Draw your own conclusions.
