David Haye vs Roy Jones that fought Ruiz

Roy DOMINATED and KTFO of P4P fighters and multiple-weight champions for a decade. David Haye is good, but his biggest wins are Mormeck and Enzo. The hype is way ahead of the substance.

I GUARAN-****ING-TEE you that Roy beats Haye. 100 times out of 100.

 

Well I think if Carl Thompson got him gassed and stopped him..............................then ROY JONES CERTAINLY COULD HAVE!!!

 

haye too young, too fast and too powerful for that version of jones, now if haye was a super-middle/light heavy fighting a prime jones, it would be a different story!!!!!

 

why do we match a HW ATG like david haye who has proven himself in evry respect in the heavyweight division against a one hit-wonder heavyweight like JOnes Jr.?

 

Jones is better than Haye at everything, fighting a fighter who employs a similar style. Haye is simply bigger and more powerful. Still, with Haye's style, he plays into Jones's hands. I don't think it's out of the question for Jones to hurt Haye with single shots, but I think at some point Haye would definitely hurt Jones. If Haye won he'd KO Jones late, if Jones won he'd outbox Haye throughout.

 

The Jones that fought Ruiz? The Jones who got KTFOed by Tarver less than 6 months later? And if he couldn't deal with Tarver's speed/strength combo, what makes you think he could deal with Haye's?

For the record, there are plenty of natural cruisers and small heavies who Jones wouldn't have beaten at that phase in his career. I'm not sure he could have beaten the 2005 version of Mormeck either.

Don't get me wrong, Jones was one of the best fighters of all time, but he doesn't beat a top-tier 200+ pounder with a modicum of quickness at that stage in his career. He no longer had his peak quickness or punch resistance, and he would have needed them to survive someone that much naturally bigger and stronger than him who isn't extremely slow.

Possibly, but as 1960osh has said, a slightly bulked up version of a prime Jones would be a better bet, as Jones was already starting to fade by that point.

No, not the Jones who got KO'd by Tarver, and you're mixed up. Jones fought Tarver 6 or 7 months after he faced Ruiz, and he won. They had a rematch over a year after the Ruiz fight in which Tarver KO'd an icreasingly declining Jones. The version of the first Tarver fight was clearly not only faded, but weight-drained from dropping down from 200+ pounds. The Jones that fought Ruiz was clearly not the same as the one that was KO'd by Tarver, and a prime Jones would've given Tarver a boxing lesson. I've given my thoughts on how he matches up with Haye.

The Roy that fought Ruiz relied more on angles then sharp reflexes so I think somewhere towards the middle to late rounds Haye catches up to him, and It's very doubtful that Roy can avoid Haye's 1-2 punch combo for a full 12 rounds and not get knockdown at least, so I say Haye wins by TKO towards the 9th round.

 

I'd pick Jones over Haye 6 times out of 10.

That said, I'd pick JC Gomez and Evander Holyfield over Jones at 200.
