I think Liston is simply too well rounded for Haye who simply doesn't have the work rate or movement to overly trouble Liston. Haye would have a slight hand speed advantage but he's never been the speediest feet wise and he would be eating one of the best jabs ever from an 84" reach all night. Liston simply breaks him down and takes him out in 6 or 7 rounds.
This is how I see it. Hayes speed would give Liston some problems early, but Liston would ultimately walk through the gaps in his game.
Haye has world class head movement, but Liston would get him eventually. This isn't as cut and dry as you'd think it would be though.
If Haye can't get past Wlad's jab he isn't getting anywhere past Liston's. Not that it really matters. Haye would see the size of Liston's mitts and have a mysterious injury.
Assuming this is the prime rendition of Liston who absolutely walked through the heavyweight division between 1958-1962, then Haye is a dead man.
Probably, yeah. I firmly believed he ducked Tyson Fury of all people. He ain't getting in there with Liston.
If a nothing clip from Ali can put Sonny on the deck, then a fast right hand from Haye can easily do the same.
sonny liston would chase haye around the ring ........whether liston could catch him i dont know but haye looses for sure probably by dec running around like alittle chicken
Is this a real question? "Good fight?" Really??????? More like good KO. Liston would destroy Haye. My GOD this forum is the Twilight Zone!
In fairness Haye would have the proverbial " punchers chance " no matter how remote that chance is. I think he gets jabbed to bits for about 6 rounds then Sonny starts unloading the power shots, but who knows?
Hayes problem here is that he is damned if he does, and damned if he doesn’t. If he tries to match firepower power with Liston, he is going to be trading punches with a more durable puncher, and he is going to tire more quickly than Liston. Between his lack of durability, and lack of stamina, this strategy sees him broken down, unless he can stop Liston quickly (highly unlikely). If he fights a more evasive fight, and conserves his energy, Liston is going to pile up the points. This strategy sees Liston outwork him, and apply more effective aggression. He is simply going to be sacrificing the scorecard, to prolong the fight.
