He fought Wlad too late. The fight was taken in 2011, it should have happend in 2010. Haye also haven't fought enough, he could have become one of the ATG fighters if he fights more often. There many great fights we could have seen by Haye. For example Haye-Pulev, Haye-Povetkin, Haye-Vitali, Haye-Fury. Haye just haven't fought enough. He is 34 now, he can have 3-4 years left to be competitive heavyweight. But obviously his prime time was in 2008-2010. I hope he comes back and makes some great fights with top contenders, it'd good to his legacy.
He wont have lasted 5 rounds with any champion who fought from the 90s - downwards. I guess he was lucky he is in the Wlad era
Wlad still would have beaten him regardless of when the fight happens, he;s too big and good. Haye wasn't a great HW champ but he was good. If he comes back in 2015 (which he been saying he will) I'm not sure how he will fare, it depends on who he fights. I think he could get KTFO against some of the HW's out there but if he gets a few million for his trouble then he might not even mind too much. I would like to see him come back and fight just to see what happens.
I'm kind of a haye believer. I think if his foot was not injured he'd have put a better performance on.
He was great at cruiser but at heavy he's just another contender in a weak era, though a top contender. Haye at heavyweight was simply driven by money, he never cared for greatness or proving himself the best. He's fought sporadically with large periods of inactivity due to injury and simply waiting for fights that would earn enough to make it worth his while. In stronger eras like the 90's and 70's he would probably would of struggled to win a title.
I disagree. Haye had the style, speed and power to take out many of the horrible belt holders in the 70s and 90s. 70s: Haye would have simply destroyed glass-jawed Joe Frazier. I see this one as a huge mismatch in size, power and skill. Haye by early KO. Haye would have struggled vs. Ali (skill) and prime Foreman (power). Still he could have held a belt for a few years against the C level fighters such as Quarry, Ellis, Foster and other random no-hopers. 90s: Haye would have been a major force in the division, getting many title shots and probably holding parts of the title ABC for periods of time. The 90s was a very weak and volatile era. Belts were won, then lost. Champsions were erratic, lazy and got knocked out rather quickly after winning their belts. Belt holders threw away belts, or were stripped. Haye would have outboxed or KO'd: - Michael Moorer - Henry Akinwande - Axel Schulz - Frans Botha - Fat comeback Foreman - Bruce Seldon - Fat Bowe from Golota fights - John Ruiz There's one reason and one reason only why Haye wasn't a "great" champion in the 2010 era. And that reason is Wlad Klitschko.
He'd have picked up a belt in the 70's, which gets overrated as an era thanks to the cult of Ali. It just doesn't make sense that an era so untouchable in theory produces one of the weakest heavyweight champions in boxing history, who won his title by beating its biggest name. Or that a fighter on Wepner level was world ranked for 3 years smack in the heart of it. But, people buy into the Ali myth such that anyone who landed a punch on him must've been great. Besides, being a great modern day Cruiser essentially means Haye was already fighting guys as big or bigger than most 70's heavyweights before he moved up to heavyweight.
The fights with Valuev, Harrison, and Wlad were dreadful. I don't see why anyone would want to see this circus attraction fight. The best thing Haye is good at is not fighting.
