From the most recent update of the Mirror.co.uk/sport...
    10/28/08

David Haye has ruled out challenging IBF and WBO world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko on December 13.

The Ukrainian is looking for a new opponent after Alexander Povetkin pulled out with a foot injury.

Haye, 27, faces American Monte Barrett at the O2 Arena on November 15.

Haye's manager Adam Booth said: "I spoke to the Klitschkos about December 13 but they want more time.

"We would have been up for it, but David is not yet ranked high enough by the IBF."

I doubt that the IBF rankings were the only reason why Haye wants to fight Barett instead of Klitschko.

How do you know that Haye 'wants' to fight Barrett instead of Klitschko?

Makes sense for Klitschko to want Haye to establish himself as a heavyweight contender before he does fight him.

That would make it a bigger fight, more money, etc.

    It's not illogical at all.

It would be very much a high risk/low reward fight for Klitschko right now.

...Despite flying in the face of everything he's said before.

In any event, it's a sensible move. Haye needs more seasoning at heavyweight before taking on the likes of Klitschko.

If Wlad beats Haye in Haye's first 'proper' fight at heavy the haters will say he but a glass-chinned, blown up cruiserweight. If Haye has one or two decent performances first then a Wlad win(if he does indeed win) over Haye means something.

Let the "Haye is ducking Klitscho" threads start...before Haye has even properly started his HW career.

When did Klitschko say that he wanted Haye as soon as possible?

Are you sure you're actually reading the posts in this thread right?

It would be foolish of Haye and Wlad to fight now.

Haye needs to test the waters of the heavyweight division properly (Bonin is not a legitimate test). If he is good at Heavyweight then a Wlad - Haye fight could be the biggest fight in the HW division in years so will need months of promoting.

It would also be a bit cruel on Barret. Hes a decent guy and deserves the money and the relativly high profile fight with Haye so i would hate for him to get shat on and his fight cancelled when it is only a couple of weeks away.

Haye has called out Klitschko on many occasions and should take the fight if it's possible, tested at HW or not. However, I don't think it's possible for him to take this fight for the simple reason that he has to fight in the O2 arena in London on November 15th - he has contractual obligations to fulfill - and that would leave him less than a month time to recover before facing Wlad.

    Klitschko needs more time?

That sounds like a misprint, or misquote.

Seems like Haye is the one who needs more time before facing Wlad, seeing as how Haye is the one who apparently refused the fight.

THis sure makes Haye's recent cocky talk and getting in Wlad's face and wanting him, right then, seem BEYOND comical.
