David Lopez has developed into one of the very best middleweights in the world. That's why he has been in Ring Top Ten FOR YEARS! However, Lopez does not have what we would call a stellar chin. Lemieux would probably knock him out; possibly while behind on the cards.

How about a match up with Gennady Golovkin? He's knocked out his last 6 opponents. Could be a good fight between two powerful unbeaten fighters.

Rubio won't be able to avoid David's power shots all night, unless he's improved his defense and worked on footwork. Lemieux by coma inducing straight right in the 6th.

Article at the Scene, by J Trejo...

Admittedly, Rubio will be cautious in the ring as the Canadian has a vicious knockout record with 25-0 tally, with 24 knockouts, and Rubio can also punch with a record of 49-5, with 42 knockouts.

"It's a turning point in my boxing career, I know this for sure. I am working very hard to beat Lemieux, and this is my only desire at this time. The fight will be extremely complicated, but I have to exercise my experience and power of my fists," Rubio said. "I want to thank my promoters who put in a great effort to get me placed as the #2 in the world. I am a fighter who has been in boxing for many years and I have a job, which is to come to fight."

    *******

    Right on. War.

Interesting video I just found. Lots of info. This guy could potentially have fought him in the amateurs.

Droz, is it true that Lemieux was upset about the way his career was going at one point? I know he wanted to turn pro at 17 and couldn't, but apart from this...:huh

Good find. Apart from the turning-pro-at-17 thing, I only see one issue he could have had with his handlers as this guy puts it... the Rubio rumors last year. After the Ayala fight, there were rumors Lemieux-Rubio would happen in Aug/Sep, and -apparently- contractual issues arose and GYM could have **** the bed in whatever shape or form so to have Rubio's people shy away from the contract. Don't really know, it's just speculation on my part. Let's face it, facing Camacho in Oct instead was probably a big disappointment. Maybe David was frustrated with the amount of fights he was racking up without facing top opposition compared to guys like Lara or even Ward who fought Brewer and Miranda at early-ish stages of their careers.

I'm sure it built up his hunger alright. :D

Really like the comment GYM posted on the Scene today...

"I honestly feel that Rubio is tougher than either of the fighters I would face for the title if I win," Lemieux continued. "I am not looking past Rubio and taking it one step at a time, but I am really looking forward to making a statement with this fight and doing whatever I have to do to get a shot at the middleweight title."

Good to hear he isn't taking Rubio lightly. 42 K0's in 49 wins ain't no joke. Not like he's washed up either, 30 years old. Tough one.

Golovkin would make bits of Lemieux. Has comparable if not better power but the huge difference is that Golovkin is a far more highly skilled boxer.

You're basing this on Golovkin's amateur career. How relevant.

Good job on substantiating this 'huge difference'.

Let's see if you do reply this time around.

Scene: "Gennady Golovkin is very upset with the 'super champion' of the division, Felix Sturm. Golovkin has tried to secure a fight with Sturm for a long time."

    Good luck with that. :deal

My prediction of seeing Lemieux vs Lee or Khurtsidze on BAD this summer is looking better and better. :think
