I think Briscoe had more tricks in his bag, especially in the defense department. I think he school's Lemieux who gives a spirited effort.
Lemieux’s a favourite of mine so maybe I’m biased but I think he makes a good account of himself until his tank runs out
Haven't seen enough of Briscoe to make a fair call. I will say however that Lemieux is one of the hardest punchers I ever saw at 160. He has the touch of sleep in his fists.
Lemieux is a big puncher and he would be a Light Heavy/Heavy in Briscoe's time, Briscoe would be a 140/47 in Lemieux's time. They are not the same size. At 31 years old, Briscoe came in a 157.5 for a same day weigh in vs. Monzon in 1974. Lemieux probably would have to cut a leg off to make 160 on a same day weigh in.
No way, I made the same thread like a few months ago. Anyway, I think Lemieux would out-box and counter Briscoe and had more than enough power to keep him honest. Briscoe was a simplistic fighter imo and wouldn't have been as he was successful in the modern era.
A very important fact and one that is almost always missed when discussing mythical match ups from different eras. Regarding Lemieux, he routinely weight in the 180's on fight night after boiling down to 160. No way he ever fights at 160 in the same day era.
