About to be officially announced for the Golovkin vs. Álvarez II undercard on Cinco de Mayo. Call it a strong hunch. Probably the most action-packed high-profile middleweight fight capable of being made today. Might outshine the main event (remember, with very rare exceptions, the rematch is nearly always kind of a letdown...a lesson relearned with Ward vs. Kovalev II and Wangek vs. González II just recently, but also before those over and over from time immemorial)
I actually called for this as the logical progression for Spike after he beat Nick Quigley six months ago. Prescient, IB, prescient.
Gonna be great while it lasts, but I can't see many other outcomes as a Lemieux win by stoppage. O'Sullivan's style is taylor made for him.
I'm not sure... they did about equally as well versus Saunders, their common opponent...and if you subtract HNN and maybe Stevens the résumé for Dave isn't that much shinier than Spike's, maybe a couple of B level wins apart. Antoine Douglas is every bit as good a scalp as any of Lemieux's tertiary ones (Guerrero, Rosado, Tapia). I'm also not sure Lemieux has the better chin, or that all that huge a disparity in power exists. O'Sullivan is probably in the same neighborhood in terms of boxing skill, in all honesty...and he isn't a much worse fighter than has, elites aside, beaten Lemieux before (Rubio, Alcine).
Antoine Douglas is NOT as good as Rosado. Not by any means. All due respect to Douglas, kid has a lot of heart... but he's a bum. Having said that... I think LeMoo has slipped since the Rosado fight. I wouldn't be surprised if Spike wins this.
I like Rosado but he's a dead average ham & egger by world level standards. He was on an 0-4 skid (technically 0-3-0-1 because of Love getting popped for diuretics, but still...they fought, and Rosado lost) when he fought Lemieux and is 2-2 since in real boxing (plus a draw in BKB with Curtis Stevens - coming directly off his defeat to HNN) including getting schooled by the Worm and going life & death with shot zombie Murray.
I can't believe I'm going to post this, but I think Spike wins this and by KO. I'd predicted for years that Saunders would school Lemieux, and granted he has underrated power and I thought Billy Joe could hurt him, but the fact that he was hurting him as easily as he was, shocked me a little, I think Lemieux's chin which is okay but not amazing is starting to fail him. If Spike can avoid taking too many flush shots early, I think he can get him out of there in the middle rounds.
And still Oscar and Golden Boy are trying to get Canelo to fight Lemieux, despite the fact that Saunders absolutely demolished him and made him look amateurish. Saunders put that to bed, surely...but no, they are still trying to find a way to make this no-skilled, lesser version of GGG relevant. Lemieux should be finished...and yet his supposed 'broken hand' excuse has kept him relevant in the division according to Golden Boy. Despite the fact that no-one whatsoever believes that he had a bad hand in the fight against BJS apart from himself.. Pathetic. Should be finished by now, and out of the sport at the top level. They really really don't want the Jacobs and BJS fights for Canelo, so they are just keeping Lemieux there for a fight after GGG for him...
