David Lemieux would be the man at 160 if it was not for Golovkin

yup....but....my basic point is/was....alot of these UK guys hear "former football player" when guys like gerald washington and seth mitchell are fighting....and they think "these footballers aint that tough"...and i remind them that those guys only played at the collegiate level and never made it to the next level because they arent truly elite........there are a host of guys that play DE/OLB/TE that are as big as Wlad and way more athletic.......these heavyweights are lucky the NFL exists or there would be 50 monsters with freakish atheltic ability looking to take money off their plates

There are guys bigger and more athletic than Tyson, Ali, Fraizer, Holmes, Holyfield as well. Or do you think they all would have cut it in the NFL as well? Boxing is much more than being able to run fast or catch a ball well.

of course boxing is much more than catching a ball or running fast....of course there is also much more to football than those two things....catching a ball that is being throwin very hard, while you are running, with a guy behind you(you arent looking at)ready to lay you out while running full speed takes some skill.....hand eye coordination and balls.....like i said.....if you could take alot of these guys from an early age and put them in a boxing gym there would be 50 or so guys in the US HW talent pool that would all be a major problem.....football isnt just running and catching a ball man.....you UK guys have no appreciation for it...its violent and alot of short burst action....hand fighting/placement.....most of you couldnt fathom how physical it is because you guys have never played it....and at the elite level? forget it..these guys are phyical freaks....toughest thing to do on earth

The majority of top boxers wouldn't be top NFL or top NBA players though, and it's always been that way. So why assume top NFL players or NBA stars would be top boxers? Sure some might be. But this argument is only partially rooted in truth, it conveniently popped up when the American HW division went to **** and heavyweights from overseas took over. Here's a new flash... The NBA and NFL have ALWAYS taken a big share of the larger athletes. Also. What do you know about me or what I've done? FYI. I'm not discrediting how tough it is to be a top NFL or NBA player, but you're definitely discrediting what it takes to be a top boxer. This argument is an insult to boxers who have cut their teeth in the sport and bust their ass.

Yes but boxing is watered down as a whole in general today. I promise you, G is no RJJ and Loma is no Floyd. A Holyfield has yet to emerge yet in today's era. Could Thurman beat a Prime Oscar or Trinidad. Could Thurman or Spence even beat Fernando Vargas. Just saying

im not trying to discredit what it takes to be a top boxer...because i dont think you can just take one of them now and make them a top boxer or even a good one...it takes years to develop....but the phyical attributes are there in these ball players...and the hand/eye coordination...its fairly safe to assume that if they spent years applying those abilities to boxing theyd be fairly good at it.....

the average size of an american footballer has grown over time....30 years ago a top offensive tackle probably weighed 260-270lbs...now just about everyone is in the 300-320 range....also 30 years guys in the NFL didnt make a ton of money...they did ok....but it isnt what it is today.....adding to that boxing is just less popular in general in the US now...which is why most kids with good size just arent into it...most of the real good US kids in boxing coming out/up now are of the smaller variety because they dont have many options

Man... Ali, Foreman and Joe Frazier were really fortunate that Bill Russell, Walt Frazier and O.J Simpson never picked up a pair gloves.

hahaha...bill russell and walt frazier? nah....ive mentioned one or two basketball players that i thought could have made pretty good boxers...but i dont generally look at them like that......i was mainly talking about heavyweights and football players.....and you chose a running back? oj was a great rb/athlete....but i dont think he could have been a great heavyweight boxer man

but lets say even in the 80s...guys like carl banks, LT, andre tippett, bruce smith and reggie white could have made some tough heavyweights i bet.....and those guys were probably being outearned by top HWs at the time...now a kid like bosa is already worth 40 mil at age 22...

It's just a shitty argument. For all you know the man with the greatest boxing potential was a forklift driver. Where was this argument when the American HW scene was looking good? It's a cop out. There have always been more athletes who went into Basketball, Football, Baseball etc. than boxing.

like i said...when the american HW scene was pretty good they fighters were making more than the other athletes......look a the money larry holmes made....evander...tyson.....those guys made wayyyyy more than NFL stars of that time.......like i said...a kid like joey bosa is worth 40 mil at age 22.....look at nba contracts...they are ridiclous and guaranteed.....back when the US HW scene was thriving the top guys were making more than the top guys in the nfl, mlb or nba

I have a feeling that two battle hardened top fighter's such as Joachim Alcine and Marco Antonio Rubio would have belts without Golovkin around.

you want to talk about a shitty argument????

so tell me...what abilities/gifts did this forklift driver possess that any human with a functioning brain and the ability to operate a motor vehicle doesnt? thats what you arent getting........these guys already show an aptitude...they have abilities regular, run of the mill, people dont have....and its safe to say if they applied them to boxing from a young age they would probably excel at it........i can find a 12 year old who can operate a forklift? so what?

That doesn't mean anything. Unless you think Holmes, Holyfield and Tyson etc. would have been great in the NFL as well. There are much more variables for the decline of the US HW division than oh "The NFL is stealing all of the good heavyweights!" because based on your line of reasoning that's always been the case... Why stop there? Why not argue that boxing as whole would be better if top athletes from other sports went into boxing instead? It's an oversimplification and at the end of the day a cop out.
