First things first... good fight. Makes for a great second viewing too. One thing that was glaringly obvious to me watching the fight (the first time) is Lemieux had zero preparation for adversity. Defensively he was decent, meaning I saw some subtle head movement here and there- but nothing breathtaking. However, once that right hand began landing it seemed DL had no idea how to get out of the way. All of which leads me to my point: there must be no french word for the term "clinch" in Canada. If Lemieux had known how to clinch he might have squeeked out a victory last night... Instead, all he did was hold high guard and attempt to dodge shots. Horrible strategy. Next... regarding the tape delay: if you go onto a boxing website KNOWING that the fight already happened while you are waiting for your respective broadcast, you deserve what you get. Granted, I understand they could have posted a spoiler alert, but the onus is on you, the fan. That's like reading a detailed movie review, then getting pissed because a major plot point was revealed. Lastly, I've already read some posts crying "exposed." Give it a rest man. Everyone and their momma was saying DL was going to run through Rubio. Now many are screaming "hype-job." No wonder this sport is struggling. Maybe, just maybe, people were just selling Rubio short. Personally, I think it was a combination of the two. Rubio still has something left (obviously), and Lemieux just isn't as good as advertised. Let this be a lesson to us all: Don't be so quick to write someone off, and let's not make someone out to be something their not, then **** on 'em when they aren't what you expected! All of these upsets have me concerned about J. Kirkland's bout tonight. Don't let me down Mandingo! Boxing needs you... but if you lose, I will say you were exposed. :good
First of all, great post buddy ! It's a relief to read someone that has something intelligent to say. It doesn't necessarily happen too often here.... The problem is always the same. A fighter looks impressive and he's the greatest thing since sliced bread, he loses and he's a hypejob... Sporting fans are often mentally dysfunctional. I think Rubio fought a very smart fight and that's a consequence of his gained experience which Lemieux hasn't acquired yet. Lemieux didn't look focused like he should, smiling to the crowd and all. He seemingly had no game plan and payed for trying to end it early. I still think Lemieux has a bright future because it's obvious to see he has many tools on his side. People often forget and don't realize he's just 22 years years old. When it's all said and done, yesterday's result still won't change for me the fact that Lemieux is an all around better boxer than Rubio. In a rematch, with a solid game plan, I have no doubt that he wins a UD.
