David Nyika the next big thing?

He never did have the makings of a varsity athlete.

 

He's fighting guys from Seton Hall who are 7ft tall.

 

No. Got knocked out viciously by Opetai. Granted he's a beast. But Nyika isn't Manny Pacquaio who did come back from shots like that.

 

I think it was a silly decision going toe to toe with Jai. There was only one realistic outcome and it may have killed his career.

 

Seems to have his hands full in his personal life. I'd be surprised if there are any big signings coming up

 

I thought it was way too early in his pro career too. But he had a long amateur background amd chances like that don't come around often if at all. I thought he'd get laid out like many and his management and team advised him not to take the fight. But he had to for himself as he believed in his ability.

Jordan Thompson did very similar vs Jai, short notice, brutal KO and all, and has been gun shy since. No fighter worth his salt is going to knock back a world title shot, but maybe their minders should be firmer about the reality that going too quickly can destroy a promising career.

 

I do hope his partner makes a full recovery. Thats obviously going to take a lot of his focus.

The lack of depth at cruiser could really work in his favour..If Nyika could fight Floyd Masson and/or Liam Callanan that would a top 15 opponant you dont even have to leave the borders of Qld for. Both those fights on the trot, if he could bag a win, would solidfy his rankings in several of the orgs and it could be a matter of time before he bags another title fight, especially if one of the belts become vacant.
