I like David price, he comes across as a nice guy and he has only lost to 1 guy, but in the 2 times he lost, a light shot ko, behind the ear , and a gassed blow out turning his back stoppage. Both exposing his punch resistance and a more worryingly stamina issue, he ll be fed some easy opponents to get going again but as a world class fighter is it all over already ?:think:think
I don't think so. He could have a Wladimir kind of turn around in his career, stranger things have happened.
I wouldn't write him off just yet. Yes doubts will always linger with him now he's been stopped twice...but if Wlad can learn to protect his egg chin then maybe Price can the same. Like Wlad he can bang and get anyone out of there if he catche's them flush...he still got to be one to watch at least for a while yet. At least he did step up unlike Wilder who's had a lot more fights. But yes I do agree with the post above - he will take a few easy confidence builder fights then start to step up again. If when he does he gets blown away again then who knows what it will do to him mentally?? He will always have big doubts about his punch resistance in his own mind and if a fighter is having big doubts it will dampen his fire.
Price is not Wlad by any means but Wladimir has shown that the correct approach can bring you back from the edge of retirement under such circumstances. Tonights fight may go some way towards revealing his future.
Sauerland are a good team, I think he has a chance of coming back. Price's mistake was that he surrounded himself with a terrible team the first time around and in the end took Lewis' advice which obviously terrible. I think he has a chance of rebuilding himself from the ground up.
I have every confidence that now he has freed himself from Smith and Maloney and is now being steered by Sauerland that he will finally fullfil his quite considerable potential.
The guy he's fighting tonight lost a split decision to an 11-34-3 fighter last year and Dorian Darch has stretched him in 1. I know he needs some confidence boosters but this fight is a joke.
Price has always had the potential to be a major force in the division. He has been poorly handled thus far. I don't think any fight is ready to fight on the world stage unless he has gone 10 or so rounds at least once. Above everything else Price has to be taught to be patient in there. If I were his coach I'd teach him he's not to use more than 7 or 8 power punches per round for the 1st half of the fight. This will keep him from gassing and teach him to utilise his height.
No, he can still do the things he has always done in the ring. Its just he has no chin and likely never had one to start with, he needs to put a world class defence in front of it of his time as even a fringe contender won't last long.
You will see Price get knocked out again at some point though he ain't shot, he was just never that good anyway and has awful punch resistance. the bad news is it wont be tonight as his opponent is garbage.
