He's not shot, but he is flawed. Yes he has tremendous size and power and has good punching technique. But he has no jab, doesn't fight well on the back foot and his stamina and durability are definite weaknesses.
What Price needs is a style that negates his weakness as much as possible. 1. he needs better stamina in order to keep the range to his opponents. When he gassed against Thompson he became a sitting duck. He can't do that. 2. he has to use his jab more effectively to keep his opponents busy. he doesn't do that well enough. Sometimes he doesn't throw a jab in 30 seconds which gives his opponents opportunities to mount their own offensive. These are two fundamental changes Price would have to go through and this isn't easy. But not impossible. You can't learn punch resistance but you can learn to protect your chin better and make it much harder for your opponents to tag you.
Price is a fun fighter to watch. He may never end up as a World Heavyweight champion but he'll always make for fun heavyweight fights and for that reason alone he's always worth watching no matter if he wins or loses. David Price vs Istvan Ruzsinszky is going to be a great fight, both have terrible chins and both have one punch knockout power so it's safe to say this one will end in an early knockout for either guy.
I would agree but he just hasn't got the talent of a wlad to protect his flaws at the highest level, has terrible stamina as well, he might go to do reasonably well but there's more KO losses in his future.
Price would still smash Wilder i'd put money on that. I doubt he will ever be a champion to many weaknesses and he is 31 or something long way to get back into contention, however i think he will play a role in the HW division he will always be a danger due to his power but realistically i doubt he will ever get to the top 5 in the division perhaps around top 10 area.
He's got the ability to bounce back, anybody that big and with that much power and arsenal of punches will always be dangerous. Especially early on. He just needs to improve his mental fortitude, which could be a reason for his stamina problems after the fight goes on when an opponent picks himself off the canvas. Fury has been down more then Price has, but Fury has shown the grit to continue on
He had 2 opponents pull out, and this is who they got on short notice. If/when Price comes back to top 10 opponents, this will only be a KO2 on his resume. He'll be more marketable as a 22(20)-2(2) vs the likes of journeymen and gatekeepers etc. This fight will be forgotten if he is able to get his head straight and get back into contention.:think
