Pretty much where I was. Any hope or belief went right out the window after that first Thompson fight. He really was exposed. Made a fortune on the rematch.

Glad he’s had a bit of a resurgence of late and made some decent money. Should leave him able to start up his own business post boxing.

    Yes.

    He hit like a truck
Had Tyson shook (he challenged for some pointless Irish belt when this was the big domestic fight at the time)
Was our only HW hopeful from the new breed that looked like he'd do well on the big stage

Always blew my mind how he never pounced on Sasha when he sent him across the ring. He could have very well need that fight.

A green Tyson Fury had dropped him (5 years older) in the amateur fight that he lost, so I don't think that he had him shook.

Tyson probably had his reasons, maybe he wanted to fight him at a later stage for even more money, I just don't think that he'd duck him when he knew exactly that he had the power to drop him.

Dropping him and stopping him are two different things.

Fury was going life and death with McDermott whilst Price was giving him the yo-yo treatment.

How old was Fury in this fight?
    Price looks taller here.

When Price dropped TT in the 2nd round of the rematch and one punch from winning by KO, he went back to his corner like he had already been battered for 12 rounds.

He should have retired on his stool at the end of that round and focused on plumbing.

I think Fury was 17 years old at that time.
I mean, Price it at least as tall as Fury.

I think besides his obvious flaws (chin, cardio and lack of a stiff jab to keep his opponents at distance) a big part of his problems are mental, he wasn't the same after the fights with TT. He did well against Povetkin for a certain amount of time when nobody gave him a chance, so maybe it's the fact that he's not able to deal with pressure/nerves that totally mind****s him before the fight even starts.

I thought he was going to be the next big thing, no doubt about it. The bloke was really likeable aswell so I wanted him to do well.

Like most on here tho, that all changed after the Thompson fight. Had respect to him for sorting the rematch out straight away, didn't think it was a smart move.
After the second fight with him it was a wrap for me.

Last fight I really got behind Pricey was the Povetkin fight. I was there live as was going mental when he hurt Povetkin!! After that it all become to much of a joke, Price is basically a walking talking meme right now.

I didn't think he was the "heir to the Klitschko thrown" put it that way, but I thought he would reach make some noise on the world scene especially as he blitzed his way through the domestic circuit.

I remember years back, not too long before the Tony Thompson defeat, I got onto the subject of Price with a few scousers I knew who are casual boxing fans. I said to them he's chinny they pissed themselves laughing and waxed lyrical about what a monster he was blah blah..... that said it wasn't long afterwards he was stopped.

All in all though, putting his vulnerabilities (e.g. stamina, durability) to one side.... win or lose he's given us some exciting fights and he can punch like a ****ing mule. He gets stick, a lot of it unnecessary, by blokes who wouldn't say boo to him. Good luck to the fella.

Yeh I was defo, maybe it was the scouse connection to that muddied my judgement, but remember the whole echo in shock that Thompson fight.

Tbh I think more people were sold on him than weren't, I know he was only beating british level guys at first but the manner in which he was doing it was very impressive. And I think if most are honest they would never had predicted Fury would be were he was today, and would have backed pricey to beat him 2012. Great improvements by him, or maybe he was just always an enigma go life and death with pavel nevjick (cant remember his name exactly!) but then school great fighters.

I’d seen him get dropped and stopped quite a bit in the amateurs. Then when he turned pro I heard he was one of Haye’s main sparring partners and with booth so thought this could be good for him.

I think I realised it was all hype after the 2nd Thompson fight.

A shame that Italian that stopped price in the Olympics never turned pro, he’s a good fighter

When you meet Big Dave for the first time, you realise there are not many taller than him out there - could easily be mistaken for a bus stop pole.

Yeah, Cammarelle had the right style to become a pro, he should have turned pro after the 2008 Olympics, but he really likes being a cop.

Yeah, Fury was just 17 when he met a vastly more experienced, more physically mature Price in 2006 and dropped him like a sack of manure.

Pajkic was the fella, and Fury had not long turned 23. There were four more years to go before he got his Klitschko shot. He wasn't ready in 2011, but it wasn't too hard to see he'd be the goods with a bit more seasoning, gradual polish, maturation, entering his physical prime.

'Nobody ever could have seen that lumbering, unskilled, unathletic Lummox would ever make it big' is the new 'You're an idiot for thinking that lumbering, unskilled, unathletic Lummox will ever make it big', go figure.
