"Horrible luck with drug cheats". Not really. It is professional sport. How many athletes competing at, or near the top level, are not utilising pharmaceuticals?
You can't help but like Pricey, bloke's as honest and genuine as the day is long. And yeah it's good to hear he's called it a day. Glad he's come out of the sport unscathed considering his stoppages too. He's a classic case of "he gave it a good go" Would defo like to see him as a regular pundit or even ringside commentary. He seems to give rounded unbiased and factual opinions when he speaks (take note and learn Mr Nelson!)
Genuinely likeable lad is big David Price. A rocket of a right hand. He's been round the block but had a career to be proud of from amateurs right through the pro ranks. Really nice thread this where everyone appreciates his time in the ring. All the best in retirement Davey Price.
Punditry beckons for Price I’d suggest. He gave it a go at professional level and provided us with quite a few memorable moments over the last decade. Price always comes across as a gentleman and a top bloke- I wish him well.
No disrespect to Scousers but if he gets a gig with Eddie you can't have him and Bellew on the same night, that's too much, it's going to hurt my ears.
Good luck to him. He should have done a lot better if he had learned to use his size, but he was never going to be a champ. Good as any time to get out.
He’s a cracking pundit by the way, regardless of his accent. Having watched some of his pre/post fight analysis on YouTube channels you can see he clearly knows his stuff. Any mainstream channel would do well to get him.
Exactly. Those are only the chemically enhanced fighters he faced that we know about. He will have beaten many others who were on stuff during his career. We all know why he really lost the fights he lost, and it wasn’t because of drug cheats. A great career and British HW boxing will miss him a lot. A really entertaining fighter and a nice man.
Sad day for boxing. Decent fella is Big Pricey. Was hoping he'd level out Babic before he went merrily on his plumbing journey.
Had a respectable career and hopefully came out it unscathed with a few bob in his back pocket. His Povetkin moment when he caught him always reminded me of when Bruno caught Tyson and the "WTF have I just done look" across his face. It takes a brave (and sensible) man to call time when there are probably a couple of lucrative last British fights out there. Fair play. I often wonder about the sliding doors moment when Price v Fury around 2012 didn't happen.
If any of you have seen me post about David Price, then you'll know how I feel about him, then you'll understand.. This content is protected
Good thread by everyone, nice to see admiration for a good British heavyweight who perhaps did slightly underachieve, but was well liked and almost always in a good fight. For me, I was gutted after the Chisora fight (I was there that night and rooting for Pricey) but I knew in my heart that he was never going to win, Chisora’s maurading style and good engine would always be a nightmare for Price. It was a shame, because he’d just started a fine run beating Tom Little, Kash Ali and then Dave Allen (as an underdog) and then took the Chisora fight on short notice. He was obviously offered a handsome sum that made it too good to turn down at his age. It’s a shame he didn’t win the British outright - because at that time he definitely could have done, but he was rushed into the international fight against TT and we all saw what happened there. I think he was probably just a touch misguided, and really didn’t get the rub of the green. He went pro with Maloney - no one realised within a few years he would become a she and effectively stop leaving Pricey in the lurch, but Maloney was on the way out then anyway (clearly lured Pricey with the Lennox Lewis comparison) and I feel big Dave should have had a much better trainer in his corner. His changes throughout his career were a joke - Coldwell threw him completely under the bus after I think the Hammer fight. Obviously Manny Steward would have been great early doors, but even someone like Mark Breland or Virgil Hunter. I always thought Booth could have been a decent fit but their relationship was very short lived so clearly not. All in all a good career from the big plumber. Could have potentially challenged for a World title under the right guidance, but truthfully i don’t think he can look back with any regrets. All the best big Dave.
