He's a top 25ish heavyweight with glaring flaws and a single exceptional trait (power) This has been the very apparent case for years if anyone was bothering to pay attention. He is what he is. He's knocked down both men whom defeated him, in Thompson's case nearly sparked him out. I'm pretty sick of the post weekend "Fight A sucks, haha so bad" so I've more or less avoided the forum the past few days. Hate it.
Maybe if he bulks up to 320 lbs he can take a hell of a shot. Then he can just relentlessly attack for the first minute before he gasses out. It's his best chance. Maybe I should train him...
Reflecting back on the fight - maybe thats what Price shouldve done. If he knew the longer he went, the more he'd gas out, he shouldve went all in at the start. He looked great at the start too, he shouldve just piled on the 1 2s then.
If he is ever seen back in the ring, they should forget about any 12 round game plan and do exactly as you say. Win it inside the first three rounds or bust...
I think Beremith takes the credit for that. That part of his post made sense to me, cos in those first rounds when Price threw those rights and left hooks, Hammer was just blocking. It didnt look he wanted to trade with a fresh long reaching Price.
Price's trainer must be the biggest turd in the team. How could he not have seen his stamina issues and work on it? Or maybe he saw it, saw no way out and they prayed it won't go beyond 4 rounds? Price's team seems to be the weak point, not just Pricey's flaws that were known for years.
Price should jack it in unless he can improve his stamina. Olympic Bronze and British Heavyweight champion ain't bad - it's further than most get. There's more important things in life, like your health, and if he carries on as he has been, he's going to get hurt one of these days.
Coldwell said the final spar before the fight - eight day's before - Price had done 12 rounds, using two sparring partners and had boxed well, used his jab and not gassed. I just think in the furnace of a real fight, his nerves take over and deplete his energy reserves. No solace in that though, because if that's the case, Price will always fail to deliver once under pressure. I think we can pretty much absolve Coldwell in this case....
I feel for Price. He has had a tough time recently and I think it is unfair for people to poke fun. Sometimes I dont think some fighters get over a loss and do things differently from that point on. Price has looked nervous and fights as if worried about what is going to come back and I wonder if that is burning nervous energy? I have thought previously that When an opponent steps forward he jumps back quickly and looks concerned. I often felt Wladimir did this and still think he seems to, and thought the same with Bute before he lost to Froch. Not so much now with Bute. I think with Prices size and power that if he went for it that he would often win early but I dont think he would be looking to do this and if some fighters get through that he may be in trouble. I have said all of that, but my opinion counts for nothing and although not a big fan wish Price and his team all of the best over what I can only guess must be a tough time
Top 25 Sherman Williams beats him at this point. Any top 50 fighter with chin, decent power or stamina beats him.
As far as Thompson II is concerned... Thompson did well to get up from that shot, a lot of top ranked heavyweights at the time might have stayed down. That mentally broke Price though, seeing someone get up from his equalizer that had stopped everyone he'd face prior in their tracks. I think Price could have had more success if he didn't completely lose his swagger after those crushing defeats, embracing the fact that he was a glass cannon with flaws and just live with it. Instead he's tirelessly worked on things in the gym that he isn't able to replicate effectively.
I don't even think it is stamina (although it look like a stamina issue). I think every time he get hit his brain resets so he can't really do anything which looks like he has gassed out. He is fine then takes a few shots then just looks like he has gassed. Its almost like he get rocked by jabs which puts him out for a micro second and it just causes him to basically forget what he is doing then his brain will get up and running again..
The guy really never learned how to utilize his height and reach advantages. Laying on the ropes and essentially playing the role of a punching bag was never going to get him too far.
