I am not saying he should be fighting world class opponents already but he should gradually be improving the opposition he faces each fight like DeGale, Gavin, Joe Murray and other prospects. The guy he faced on his pro debut was his best opponent yet. Since then he has not been fighting enough, has not had a fight in his hometown and has faced Euro-bum after Euro-bum. The guy ia closer to 30 than 25 and he is an Olympic gold medalist. Maloney came out last week and said he would put him in with any domestic heavyweight..........how about Larry O, Tom Dallas, John McDermott or Dave Fergersoun???
wasn't it a bronze medal he got mate? but i see your point about his progress. but i also think as a heavyweight there is not the same rush to get to the top as the lower weight divisions
It's not a question of rushing to the top for me..... nor winning titles - which is a bit overrated anyway. It's all about improving - the opponents he's been in with so far aren't a test at all, as I said earlier in the thread a couple of them shouldn't have had a licence to box in this country. He'd as well be facing someone pulled out of the crowd or something. There's plenty of skills to work with but he needs to be in a school of hard knocks - a hard gym with hard sparring, young lads wanting to take his head off. That will determine whether he can be separated from a top prospect and a middling domestic level sort. Hopefully it's the former, but I've got my reservations, mainly because of the way his career is being handled by others.
I found that fight very tedious from start to finish and Price never looked like knocking the fella out,I know he stopped him and he`s never been stopped ,though that was a tad premature in my eyes but it just seemed round after round of the same tedium. He seems a likeable fella down to earth but I have my doubts that he`ll get any where near to the top of the game. Hope i`m wrong though.
