David Price, Richard Towers and Tom Dallas - 3 peas in a pod.

Are they not? All three are awkward(if not outright clumsy) 6'6+ heavyweights who all happen to be from England, and all fall apart at the seams when the going gets tough.

Here's 45 year old Matt Skelton bullying and owning Dallas when he was still sort-of considered a HW prospect with some upside(he had only lost to the hyped Price at the time) Skelton completely beat the fight out of the taller, fitter and much younger man, culminating with a him wailing on an exhausted Dallas against the rope with the former's head whip lashing in a dangerous looking fashion(eerily similar to Browne/Towers)

After an early negative start filled with clinching from Towers and a few weak pawing jabs(maybe dropped 2 rounds or so) Browne eventually broke through after losing most of the 3rd and had Towers knocked back into the ropes - dancing around like a drunk at the bell. After that it was only a matter of time and sure enough Browne beat Towers up like a redhead step child in the 5th mauling him against the ropes until the ref mercifully stepped in and started a count as a Towers stumbled around before rightfully stopping the fight and saving the badly disoriented Towers from anymore punishment.

David Price vs. Tony Thompson II... The first fight was a fluke right? Price was a blue chip prospect with serious title aspirations, a Klitschko fight was on the horizon. It sure appeared that way early on... Price dropped Thompson heavily with his patented right cross in the 2nd round(the same round Thompson had stopped him in) it appeared the Price was on the cusp of achieving the perfect revenge and getting his much hyped career back on track... But the Tiger rose from the canvas and survived the round... Price came out looking to finish things in the 3rd only to completely punch himself out and appeared to be mentally broken. Thompson slowly but surely beat the fight out Price culminating with the 5th round stoppage.

The Hammer fight mirrors this almost to a T.... Hammer was a highly rated contender, yet unimpressive and very beatable. The perfect and probably last opportunity for Price to line up a mega fight.. It starts off well with Price outboxing and eventually dropping Hammer heavily, only for things to go almost the exact same way Thompson II played out.

Kickboxer turned Boxer Gregory Toney nearly stopped Towers in almost the exact same fashion Browne did by mauling him against the ropes, and he probably would have had the ref known how to properly officiate a fight. Essentially a foreshadowing of the next fight with Browne in hindsight.

You might be thinking.... Warning signs? Price stopped Skelton inside two rounds! That may be true... But it's obvious looking at this fight that Price is very fragile and doesn't like forward pressure. Skelton was able to cause a few uncomfortable moments for the liverpudlian. I remember some astute and bold posters pointed this out in the aftermath of the fight and raised questions about Prices toughness, technical flaws and durability.

Some might be thinking that this isn't a fair comparison.. After all... Price achieved more than Towers and Dallas - an Olympic bronze medal, some solid domestic wins, and a few good fights with contenders. That may be true... But ask yourself this... Take away the vaunted right hand power. Is he then any different than the Dallas' and Towers of the division? The answer is no.

In short... Let these fellows serve as an example not to fall hype and get too emotionally invested in prospects... Always take a closer look before getting on the bandwagon.

They're preparing Dave Allen well for a future showdown with Price lol. I think Allen/Price will mirror Allen/Howe, but only for a couple of rounds longer. With Price outboxing Allen until he gets KTFO or gasses and wilts.

Here's another one... I likened him in the Browne-Kownacki-Miller type of mold before he was exposed, but he ended up being more like these guys.

 

I hope the bookies get high and make Price a big favorite like they did with Hammer.. I'm not a big betting man but if Allen is a dog, I would seriously think about throwing $400-500 bucks on the Rhino.

 

I think Gregory Toney deserves the credit of exposing him though tbh(and probably a win in a fair world) check that clip... But yeah. You have a fair point, Dubois is being hyped WAY too much. People need to remember what happened to Price and guys similar to him before hopping on the hype train completely.
