More importantly those fighters had proved themselves at the top and could of chosen to retire having achieved there dream, price is a prospect and been sparked out

Lewis lost in 2 championship fights, to better fighters . One was a rather premature stoppage too. Price lost against a old shot fat journeyman. No comparison.

This is a massive set back for him no question about that but retire after 1 loss? Lennox Lewis got stopped by McCall in 2,Bruno was stopped by Smith, Amir Khan was blown away in a round by Presscot,Shannon Briggs was stopped early in his career and Wlad was beaten in 2 by Sanders. Unbeaten records are rare in boxing.
Price needs to take a break then rebuild,it will take a few fights but this loss could prove to be a good thing in the end. As it is this morning though it is a big set back.

 

A rematch is the only option for Price imo.Taking on a guy like Towers is pointless and Thompson could lose in the meantime.He's not a young prospect so he's really got nothing to lose.Its also about pride.Even if he rebuilds and wins a world title that defeat will be constantly brought up particularly if he dos'nt avenge it.A rematch will also say alot about Price mental fortitude.It takes balls to get back in the ring with a guy that beat you,if he was to reverse that he would deserve major credit.If he losses he might aswell retire.

 

One loss and he should retire? Wow. Fans, right? I bet that if Price wins a significant belt in the future, those who call for his retirement now will be the first to jump back on the bandwagon.

As soon as he fought a live guy who could trade in the pocket he got found out.

If he comes back he'll end up fighting ultra cautious - like Wlad did a few years back - and even then by the later rounds his flaws will probably come home to roost against anyone who can hang about for a bit.

He can go cautious, and no doubt he will be, but he can't fight like Wlad; doesn't have the jab, the footwork or lateral movement of Klitschko.

Joe, I agree with your second point,sound common sense,but not your first.I think this was a devastating loss.David may not have plenty of time,even at heavyweight and I think this was a reasonable step up which he should have got through,if only on points.Thompson was over 10 yrs older and I honestly think Audley Harrison could give him a fight.The British boxing media got it wrong and were bulling David up too early and too much,not for the first time I know,but they'd got a lot of us believing the hype.
IMO he can come back and he can avenge this.Hes got to.He can be a top 10 contender,but at the moment I think Pulev would beat him,not to mention 2 olympians for the future in the Ukranian and Anthony Joshua.
