David Price Too Lazy To Be Champion

I don't get why people are slagging Price and saying he was moving too slow and that he's too old. Ask anyone, heavyweights go one longer than any other fighters in weight divisions. Most heavyweight fighters don't reach their primes until they're aged 33-36 or so on. Look at Wladimir Klitschko and Lennox Lewis. Tyson Fury is 24 and for a top heavyweight to be so young is very rare, only Mike Tyson springs to mind as being the only other heavyweight who that young when he was taking on the world-class fighters.

I think the pace of his development has been okay. True, in 2010 and 2011 it was frustrating because he was inactive a lot but in 2012 he seemed to really kick on and make up for some lost time. Had four fights and got four KOs, winning the British and Commonwealth titles in the process. Alright, the Harrison and Skelton fights were a bit **** but at least he's not like Deontay "I only fight blokes who work in KFC" Wilder who's progress is laughable.

He could have done with maybe facing a European level fighter before facing Thompson admittedly but come on, who else apart Dwyer really thought for a minute that Thompson was going to win?

Price needs a few confidence boosting wins against some solid opponents, then try to step up again. Regardless of his age, he still has time to rebuild and learn.

I did mention in a few posts Thompson could, then changed my mind to "There is a good chance of the upset" Few others did too,but not sure if they were being genuine lol

I said on the podcast I do that Price would win easy and if Thompson knocked Price out then I'd apologise too Tony for writing him off. Better get my humble pie recipe out. Still, NO ONE saw that coming IMO. It was a true "WTF" type silence when it did. It was like, as James Helder cleverly put it on IFilmLndn, everybody had been told that their nan had died.

It was spooky watching it .. especially considering we had to wait 20 minutes for it to actually start .. the drummer boys, the gay opera singer, the anthems .. then that.
The interview James did with Thompson was great though, made me laugh and kept me entertained.

I hate that shitty anthem he walks out too. Part of me was almost glad he got knocked out, it shut all his football/part-time boxing who roar YNWA fans up.

Still feel bad for Pricey though, top fella.

Yeah in all fairness, Thompson seems like a pretty cool & funny guy.

Alot of his fans seem to be casual as anything,do you think this loss will effect his ticket sales in the long run? and he does seem like a sound lad, hope he can work on his style and come back,I'm a Fury fan first and foremost but no one has the power over here currently that Price possesses,I like everyone else love a good knockout !

I've said this before on other Price/Fury debate threads. I'm a scouser and a big Price fan but I'm a PROPER boxing fan if you know what I mean, I don't just follow scouse boxers and the Mayweathers like most part-time fans do. Not being snobby, just calling it like I see it.

What most of his part-time fans think is this, they see him twat the **** out of blokes like Audley Harrison and Matt Skelton in proper fast times and think "**** me, he must punch proper hard. I bet he could knock out anyone!" That's not the case, they don't understand there's more to boxing than that. Most of them probably never knew that Price had a suspect chin, that's why so many were so shocked when he went down out of the blue.

This won't be a killer blow to his career or popularity but it will definitely hurt it IMO. He was without doubt Liverpool's top boxer (ahead of Bellew and Fielding) in terms of interest and ticket sales. He might remain no 1 but he won't fight at the Echo Arena again for a bit, he wouldn't sell out now unless he fought a top-class opponent. I reckon he'll go back to fighting at Aintree or at a few modest sized venues around the country, say 2000-5000 capacity. He's still loved and supported in Liverpool, just people know now he's not unbeatable which is what so many naive people thought before.

Good post, agree with it ... but Price really ahead of Bellew? Personally got it the otherway around, but as you say,a majority of casual fans that think Price can bang anyone out whenever he wants will appeal to the more lite fans that just love that side of it,knockouts and nothing else.He was seen as liverpools Tyson haha,Mike that is.

I think the loss will make a big impact on his ticket sales, I don't think he'll get close to selling the ECHO out any time soon.

I think pound for pound Bellew is better than Price, better boxer and more experienced because he's been down and had tough fights but recovered and got through them. He doesn't quite generate as much interest though (although he's not MILES behind by any means). When he fought Danny McIntosh for the British title at the Echo Arena he sold about 3000-4000. Price sold 7000-8000 against Audley ****ing Harrison!

You never know though, now that Pricey has had that bad loss and Tony is close to a world title shot he may leapfrog him into the no 1 position. I hope so, would rather hear Z Cars blasting during an entrance than YNWA! :good

I think a lot of people gave up on the idea of Thompson doing it after the weigh in. I thought he was a live underdog prior to that and was thining of backing him for the KO.

Your legs are not bigger than Prices, stop being silly.

This knock-out loss is no shock to me, David Price's punch resistance has always been his weakness. Technically and with his physical skills i still think he is a formidable opponent for most heavyweights.

I don't think he should change anything in his training, and i don't think he should step back down to domestic level! And i want to see him back out there in 1-2 months time tops.

Note: I stopped reading your post at that leg comment.
