Hmm, intriguing. Whitaker was as mediocre as they come and not a particularly hard puncher - one of those slow, ponderous types who threw mostly amateurish arm punches. Price is a better fighter, a level above clearly. Of course he has that Achilles Heel in his chin, but I doubt Whitaker had the skill, speed or power to take advantage. Price stops him by the middle rounds
Whitaker has some impressive wins taking Monte Barrett's L plates and also stopping Maskaev. However he has losses in his prime against Savarese, Luan Krasniqi, and McCline. I think a prime Price (pre- TT 1) knocks him out in under 4 rounds. Price was an animal is his short prime. Whitaker never showed such viciousness when he was in his prime, and has some glaring losses. As IB says he was a plodder. However, Price was a stone cold killer until he stepped up to a level he wasnt ready for which then finished him mentally.
i dont trust Price in head to head fights. Tony Thompson wasnt known for his punch and he took price out as was a similar height and size and was also awkward. Whitaker could take a punch where Price really couldnt
Both guys were very flawed. But Whitaker certainly has the bigger win, having KOed Oleg Maskaev in two rounds. Maskaev didn't have a great chin, either. But it held up fine against Rahman twice, Alex Stewart, Courage Thsabalala, Derrick Jefferson and any number of power punchers. That remains a good win over a future champ, whereas I can't even tell you who David Price beat who was really any good. Certainly, nobody as good as Maskaev. Hell, maybe nobody as good as Andrey Fedosov, who Whitaker also beat. I think Whitaker at his best knocks out Price.
Lance Whitaker ko 6 I imagine him surviving the first 3 rounds and then starting to take control with a fatigued Price.
