With the betting odds so wide, its hard not to have a punt on big Pricey. No disrespect to Kuzmin, he's a very solid fighter, but he's giving away a massive height and reach advantage and doesn't have half the defensive agility of Povetkin, he's too stationary coming forward and in and lacks the head and upper body movement to avoid Priceys big right. In his pro career thus far, he's yet to impress. Of his 2 opponents of note, 39 year old second fight after 10 year layoff Malcom Tann took him 4 rounds, and 45 year old Amir Mansour was arguably beating Kuzmin before their clash of heads stopped the fight. Essentially, David Price is a big step up for Kuzmin. Kuzmin relies on pressuring his way in range to fight on the inside, he's going to have to eat plenty of Price's right hands to get close to him and will have trouble avoiding them. Price has nothing to lose and is at damn good betting odds. I'm tipping Price to get the KO and upset in another show stopper.
Price has nothing to lose but his head. Is Price vs Kuzmin really happening tomorrow? I sincerely hope not lol.
None of the past opponents are relevant. Mansour is far more durable than Price. Rewatch the Teper fight if you think Price has a chance. Giving away height and reach to Price doesn’t matter because he cannot deal with come forward fighters who throw hooks with both arms.
Yeah. Price is really getting underrated and Kuzmin overrated. 50/50, because Price has yet to win against someone he isn't a massive favorite over. But Price has more natural talent, and Kuzmin's professional career hasn't lived up to expectations to this point. The fact that Price had a better amateur career than Kuzmin just adds to the irony. Again, if Price can get out of his own head, he should win this. Its just a 50/50 proposition whether he can do that.
Not proclaiming that Kuzmin has no chance or anything like that IB, its probably 50/50 IMO. But the odds are in Prices favor here, late notice with a full camp, Kuzmin probably didn't prepare for a 6'8 82-inch reach opponent who is arguably the biggest hitter in the division, in very good shape, with absolutely nothing to lose. Big step up for Kuzmin at this stage of his career, especially for a late notice opponent of Prices caliber. Yes, Price has a glass jaw, but Povetkin, Joshua, hes dropped the best of them and is no mug, and Kuzmin doesn't have either the offensive/defensive movement of Povetkin for an inside fighter, and Price sent him sprawling across the ring. If anything it will be a huge test of Kuzmin's chin. But with the betting odds so wide against Price as well, I think he's the best roughy for a while for a decent punt.
Agree with your analysis, I got pricey on this too. Not taking anything away from Kuzmin, but Pricey should have fixed his minor shortcomings in the last bout with Povetkin to be more than ready.
We’ve said this so many times though. When he linked up with Coldwell that was supposed to be the missing link. He was “sparring 12 rounders with ease”. Then he gassed out in three rounds against Hammer. Price will never improve and he’ll never get better. He’s now with Derry Mathews who hasn’t achieved anything of note as a pro boxing trainer.
Perhaps, but all he had to do was stop dropping his guard against an explosive puncher ...and put some pressure/ tenacity when your opponent is hurt. Two simple (free) things.
I actually agree and think Price KO's him too. He seems to do well against massive punching Russian stars who are stiff and lack head/upper body movement.
C'mon Pricey you can do it. I want to see a smile and his hand raised tomorrow night, one of the true gents of this sport !
