What do people see in his resume that makes people think he is a contender-level fighter? His best win is over Audley Harrison -- it was hailed as if he had felled prime Mike Tyson at the time, a sure sign he was an offensive tiger ready to take on the world. Not. If Audley isn't his best win, what is? Tom Dallas, who had a carefully padded record until Price felled him -- and he's gone on to low-resistance opponent level ever since (which is all he was ever going to be, so I don't see how this is a great win). First time Price stepped up he got sparked out by a half-hearted punch that didn't even land flush. So who thinks he's a world-class fighter, and why? What is the big deal about him?
It was the area where the punch hit , similar to how chad dawson was nailed last weekend , though that looked a far harder shot than Thompsons one but the same effect , i think Price will have a good career and could win a world title.
well when your knocking out all the guys at domestic level it shows , you have a damned good punch and two that your a level above those fighters in that respect. David was hit with a freak shot and thats why he was stopped, if the shot had hit anywhere but the area it hit he wouldnt have been knocked down. It remains to be seen if he can mix it at the elite level of boxing but hopefully if he gets threw his next fight and wins then he can stay on target for a title shot. I am not saying he will win a world title i am just saying he has chance.
It was the way he put several durable fighters away early and with ease that got people ranting and raving (me included). ***ton, McDermott, Skelton were expected to test him but he blew them away. The fact that some of those tested other prospects much more added to the hype (McDermott vs Fury for example).
Ridiculous comparison mate, dawson got nailed with a massive shot, well timed, superbly delivered-from a noted puncher.price crumbled from a frustration punch,a lash out type shot with little power in it.
If you look at my first post i stated the similarity of the punch was the area it hit, both on the neck near the ear. I agree that the power of each shot was completely different but the actual area it hit was the same.
Skipping down to the bottom, who has anyone beaten in the heavyweight division? unless someone beat's a klitschkos nearly every fight would be discredited as a bum. It drives me a bit nuts reading every other post how the division is ****.........sweet, write that yourself? people think their some kind of boxing god having the opinion that the heavy weight division is crap and people spout it off like no one has heard it before. I think the klitschkos (not so much Vitali any more) make every other fighter look **** and that's more of the problem. Apart from a few greats fighters of old would do deceptively bad in today's market.
And purely on the fact he seems to be a bit of a humble dude, I hope Pricey does well. He certainly has the tools as long as he doesn't get caught......easier said than done.
Come the next 12-18 months it will be open season in the HW division at the moment it is more about getting in position for post Klitschkos than facing or let alone beating them. Anyone in the mix top 10-15 should think they have a live chance.
agreed.one was a big flush shot.the other a glancing blow that turned david price into amir khan vs bredis presscott
