Vargas was bigger and physically stronger than Reid (altought Reid hit harder) and fought much better comp at this point and he would wear Reid down IMO.

This is an even fight, if you guys think David Reid would get blown out of the water you're sadly mistaken. That guy had talent, it is an absolute tragedy what happened to his career. If Both these fighters would have stayed away from monster Trinidad than both would have had great careers and amazing fights with each other.

    Great post

I predict Vargas would pull off a close SD win against Reid.

In all honesty, I think Vargas vs Reid would have been just as good of a fight as Vargas vs Trinidad because they would have matched up closer together in terms of skill and experience and both were young hungry fighters.

David Reid was the only guy to get a real knockdown on my brother in law back in the amateurs, Reid had real talent. I would have ****ing LOVED to have seen a more mature Reid vs Mosley/DLH/Winky/Forrest/Mayorga/Quartey/Vargas....The guy got his retina detached with Trinidad, if you seen him now you probably wouldn't recognize the guy...He doesn't sound right, he studders in his talk.. He sacrificed possibly 10s of millions of bucks by chasing a million bucks payday with Trinidad, all of which is probably long gone by now. :(

Just to put things into perspective on how good of a fighter Reid could have been... Vargas was 22-0 with 20ko and had already fought guys like Campas, Raul Marquez, Winky Wright, And Ike Quartey before fighting with Trinidad!

David Reid faced decent opponents but was only 14-0!!! He put up a HELL of a supurb fight against Trinidad!...In fact that fight was a fkn toss up midway through the fight. Not only that IMO Trinidad was in the best physical shape and conditioning with the best mix of speed/power when he showed up for David Reid...

****ing sucks but Reid would have been a very quality fighter.

I think Vargas wins. Reid had good athleticism and speed but I wasn't ever too impressed with his skills. Vargas had a solid skill set. He could box effectively at angles and brawl effectively at close quarters. He had a solid jab. He did a pretty good job at making up for his average hand speed by throwing short shots so his punches had less distance to travel. His combos were solid and he mixed it up well from head to body.
