Was there ever such a boxer? I distinctly remember either hearing about or dreaming of hearing about a fighter named David "Sweet Potato" Chavez. Boxrec has a David and a Davey, both active in the 90's and with three fights between them, but neither had a nickname listed and honestly I can't think of a reason why they would have earned a nickname with such brief careers...or why I would have heard of them for that matter. Was there an SPC in the amateurs perhaps?
I don't know. You ever smash your fist into a yam? They sort of mush up but still don't completely break apart. I think the nickname speaks of resilience and ability to absorb punishment. :bart
