He has a very good chance to make some noise in the division now yet he hasn't had a single fight this year, don't know what he's thinking/doing. He's not that old either.
I agree. But Tua is like a riddle wrapped inside an enigma.....I just don't understand the guy.....I used to blame his promoter for his abrupt stops at a title run but how can we not blame Tua now? I really don't get it....In his last run he was a fit 230 lbs and he looked just as devastating as when he took Ruiz out in 28 seconds........You're right he's not old and with the heavyweight division the way it is NOW IS THE TIME
by the way brotha, you remember after the Jefferson-Harris fight Larry was like "Derrick Jefferson, I love you!" everyone except Maurice Harris loved him that night. Shannon Briggs is another although he was champ for a short time wasn't he? As for Riddick Bowe, it boggles my mind how he couldn't make it with the marines, yet Evander Holyfield outran Carl Lewis who was at one point the fastest man on the planet and Evander was always in x-lent shape, yet he lost 2 out 3 to Bowe.:think George Chuvalo is another that shoulda been a champ
Yeah, I remembered Merchant saying that about Derrick when he used the same line about Mosley last week. I actually missed seeing that Harris/Jefferson fight live because of a good looking woman, but I caught the replay and it still gave me chills. Bowe seemed to have it all. It's sad to see how far he has fallen and how short he fell from what he might have been.
If he only had enough appetite to step up against Lennox Lewis, he would've been disposed off and we wouldn't have seen him embarrass himself as much as he did in the Golota fights.:deal
I think the fight with Ike took a LOT out of Tua, he was never the same guy after that. Still had the power, but turned into a plodder instead of someone who could chase you down and get you.
Exactly. Of top level HWs in recent years, Rahman had one of the most fragile chins we've seen - far worse than Wlad Klitchko, who gets slammed with the weak chin label, even though he, unlike Rahman, has never been knocked out cold. Rahman on the other hand, was starched multiple times. That's a glass jaw if I ever saw one.:yep
Tua should've at least held a piece of the world title, I still think he can do this but his career and inactivity have been disappointing but there has been huge wins that happened for him.
Yeah there's really no good excuse for Tua. It's not bad luck. tua has wasted many of his prime years doing virtually nothing and has showed up uninspired in big fights like the 2003 fight with rahman. also if b level guys like ruiz, ibrag, old maskaev, briggs and others have held belts in the past 5 years, he could have definitely held one as to rahman i think he was a force for a brief time but he too put in a bunch of **** efforts in the past few years
