David Tua retires

so he can come back at 43 or 44 and look better than he has in the last 6 or 7 years? ummmm no..... his time is up. no turning back the clock

 

yeah I have to agree. Tua was in the best shape he could of been, but a foolish decision to put him up against a giant, who was ranked within the top ten to 15 by most of the bodies, was such a pointless waste of his time and effort, it was like a criminal act brought about by the matchmaker and promoter.


Unfortunately. stupidity isnt a crime in itself, so they get to skip off into the sunset scottfree,while Davey is left scratching his head and left without any hope of fulfilling a dream. :?

 

well yeah a dumb move in a sense....but the last 10 years has proven when he tries to have stay busy fights against guys he will beat, he wins and goes inactive for 8 months to a year or even more...even after a 2 round KO.
he was either lazy for most of his career or had the worst team ever managing him, because of all the heavyweights in the last 15 years and all the belts out there, he should have gotten at least one of them. hell sam peter and oleg mascaev had belts!

 

if tua still had the hunger, Ustinov would still be nursing a concussion. tua was in great shape, he just didn't have the kill mentality anymore. when giving away height and reach like that, it takes a great fortitude to get the job done like was necessary by david. his heart wasn't in it. Ustinov is more than competent to keep his nerve. game over.

david has earn't his retirement.

 

his peers know he doesn't need a belt to prove his ability. it would have been nice though yeah sure.

 

a solid plan to fight 4-5 times a year may have been in order to keep his weight down, and his chances of doing well much better. The fact that he COULD of won a minor belt just makes the pill that much harder to swallow. I hope he takes what he has learned from his experience and applies it to his students.

 

yeah he was just getting paid....reminded me of Tyson vs Kevin McBride but not so pathetic....

and how he couldnt even stay active enough to get shots against guys like Ruiz, Chagaev, ValBUM, Brewster, or even Wlad back in the day when was just defending that WBO title.... yep, what a waste

 

Sadly, at this point in his life/career, he'll only get himself into serious condition if it's a do or die situation.

 

I think u will find that very, very few fighters voluntarily put their hands up to fight him for most of those years. there would have been no heavyweight more feared than tua during that period.
plus he had all sorts of huge problems with promoters ripping him off and making him wait out contracts before entering the ring again.

 

the thing is this, you dont have a comeback tuneup fight against high ranked fighters after having been through the mill against B grade fighters like Mr Barrett 2 years prior to that do you??. Who would do that?? he got into shape but Ustinov fought like a klit and managed his range well. Thats a heck of a range , and the chances of Davey slipping and sliding his way in were pretty slim. He came out on his toes and started boxing at one point and i thought he had finally found his way in with his speed of entry, but he stopped after a few missed punches! atsch that signalled game over for me at least.:dead

 

True. Why fight him if you didnt have to.:deal

 

Tua can still make it if he trains hard and regains his focus.

We have all seen what happens to Wladimir when he gets pressured, and a focused Tua would be too much, even today!

 

to me tua will be the best fighter to never win a title always falling 1/2 steps short, Just like his olympic bronze medal, But Tua won't be remerbed as a failure but as that devastating knockout artist with the afro and fear some hook
